Two Chocolate Cakes
Two Chocolate Cakes, A Culinary Memoir follows the writer from one of her earliest family memories—making a scratch chocolate cake with a purloined recipe for her father’s birthday, a cake he would never eat on his birthday because he would be passed out drunk before the sun would set, to another chocolate cake, made by strangers but sent by friends, some 40 years later, and all the culinary and emotional layers in between those moments. Second Floor Chicken Dinner (season 1 finale) 01.06.2022 12:06
And so we come to the end of Season 1 of Two Chocolate Cakes, and it is with one of the most bland meals out of the entire series, but still a meal I love more than anything--it is a comfort meal that I eat even now, many years later. It is also one of the only kinds of meat I can manage to cook myself! Well, besides hotdogs. I hope you have enjoyed this first season of Two Chocolate C...

Kay's Christmas Eve Lasagna and Christmas Day (Dad's Favorite) Beef Stew 18.05.2022 13:42
After my parents' divorce, Kay took over hosting Christmas. She made it special after Mom swore never to celebrate holidays again, even putting a tiny 2 food christmas tree in the room I stayed in. A reminder that you can support the podcast by joining the Patreon at one of the 4 levels. and that the recipes for this and the other episodes can be found at Two Chocolate Cakes website.&n...
Quintana Roo's Tofu Scramble 11.05.2022 12:09
There was something about Portland that gave me courage. I don't know if it was the weather, or the fact that I had a job where I was respected, or if it was all that incredible beer (and let me tell you, the beer was OUTSTANDING) or if it was the rain, but it was something. I only wish that I had banked some of that courage for the future. A reminder that recipes can be found at TwoChocolat...

Thorp Hall Weekend Dinner 06.04.2022 11:35
What was the first thing you learned to make when you left home? Do you remember? Did you have some kind of crazy college dorm room food hack? I did and IT WAS DELICIOUS! PS. You can actually hear Peat yowling on this one. I just did not have it in me to re-record. So you get two sad cat meows as a gift with purchase.
The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich 30.03.2022 10:49
In that weird in-between time of high school and college summer jobs, in the days before internships and real jobs, I worked at the most magical summer resort. If you remember the movie Dirty Dancing--you know this resort.
Scrambled Eggs with Pepperoni 23.03.2022 5:42
My father's signature meal. After he got sober and changed jobs, my mother started working two nights a week at a halfway house. Dad and I took turns making dinner but neither of us were particularly skilled in the kitchen, but we liked what we ate.

Mrs Roch's Macaroni and Cheese 02.02.2022 9:19
There's something about other people's kitchens that I will always love--probably because they have always been safe harbor for me (for the most part) and the very first (and for the next several decades) "family" kitchen for me was the Roch's kitchen where I learned how to make Macaroni and Cheese.
Mrs Weatherstone's Chocolate Birthday Cake 29.01.2022 8:48
This is the First Chocolate Cake.
Introduction to the series: Two Chocolate Cakes 29.01.2022 5:32
Let's set the table, shall we? This whole series started out as a literal recipe box that I still have, more than 25? maybe more? years later. I was looking at it as a creative writing prompt. Even though I keep a lot of my recipes in an online recipe keeper now because I am afraid of losing them, I still have my little recipe box, and all the cards. And every single one of them, even the on...
