Is all the worry and preoccupation and stress around us and within us really what God wants for us? If we can quiet ourselves enough, what is it that God would really say to our hearts? Given his understanding, and compassion, and almighty power, will I entrust myself and all sense of control to him?

The world around us (and our flesh) will always strive to convince us that we’re not content. There’s also more we need – more stuff, more experiences, more attributes. As followers of Jesus we not only can but must find and participate in the surpassing contentment that comes from the power of the Spirit alone.

As we look at the encounter Elijah had with overwhelming depression, we find that even when the journey is too much for you, it is not too much for the Spirit that resides within you.

As we begin this series, ‘Healthy Mind’, we confront the idea that sheer will power is able to help getting our heads right. Instead, we lean into the steady and faithful power of God and the participation he invites us to.

That tomb-stone that had closed the tomb, enclosed the crucified body – that served as a definitive and horrible ‘thud’ to any hope – THAT very same tomb-stone was rolled back to the side. Now, the tomb-stone rolled away to the side, reveals the tomb once more and gives access to “Come and see” the new thing that God did! Come and get your first taste of this game-changing joy!

Jesus goes out of his way to meet his disciples – then and now – in whatever complex, preoccupied state they find themselves. And he gracefully invites us into a miraculous life, not constrained by our circumstances.

For Orphan Care Weekend we hear from Pastor Donny Abbott & Brent Phillips and are challenged on the absolute need for love and worship to be at the heart of everything we do and the service we extend.

We need our imagination to be engaged and stretched if we’re going to conceive of anything outside of what we have come to experience firsthand. But the truth comes to us, if only we will allow ourselves to come to grips with it – or, more appropriately, with Him.

Come to the party this weekend at Timberline Church! Ha! Sounds silly doesn’t it? We are in a series called “How We Change.” This weekend we will be looking at the practice of celebration. This is an important part of our salvation and walk with our Lord.

From an Old Testament perspective, the purpose of sacrifice was a way of bringing people into the presence of God. More than sacrifice merely being ‘giving something up’, it is perhaps better understood as a giving over of the valuable, the sacred. Pastor Donny explores why God is worthy of our sacrifices and challenges us with the question, “What do you need to sacrifice?”

‘How We Change’ is to focus on the way of Jesus. If you catch this, you catch this series (and if we miss this, we miss the series). Focusing on the way of Jesus keeps our spiritual practices vibrant and relational (and keeps us from a focus on the practices themselves which will turn stale and legalistic. Focus on the way of Jesus – that’s where the life and vibrancy and flourishing is found.
