It is about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and how that applies to our individual transformation. It is about making a commitment to live a life dedicated to the purposes of God. Water baptism is ultimately symbolic for dying to self in order to live for God.

If we are willing to trust God enough to actually do what we've been assured of by Him - the result produces a testimony that provides evidence of God's power.
