Tyler Esselman and Michael Osinski
This One Goes to 11
Are you searching for some amazing music, but you can't bear to sift through all those elitist-sounding music reviews out there? Join theatre artists and music enthusiasts Michael and Tyler on their quest to find the perfect album. Each week they invite a guest (or two) to share stories about the music that made them who they are AND to suggest what THEY believe is the perfect album. An album so brilliant that "10 out of 10" just doesn't do it justice.

Ep 87: Isabella Morano Nominates Moses Sumney’s “græ” 19.11.2024 49:20
You know how we love our multi-hyphenate friends over here at TOGT11! And this week the hyphens are flyin’ yet again as we welcome winemaker-actor-producer and all-around bonne vivante Isabella Morano to the This One Goes to 11 living room. And what’s that she brought with her? Oh my word, it’s “græ” by the one and only Moses Sumney. “græ” is a wide-ranging, kaleidoscopic musical journey that dra...
Back to 1: What A Friend We Have in Sufjan 15.11.2024 17:45
In this week's installment of Back to 1, Michael looks back on his religious upbringing, highlights the "queer Christian yearning of Sufjan Stevens," and questions whether his arms will ever be long enough to box with God. Check out Ezra Craker's article for Sojourners . Theme music composed by Damien Figueras . Got a question, comment, or suggestio...
Ep 86: Janie Killips Nominates Sufjan Stevens' "Illinois" 12.11.2024 55:15
It's safe to say that this week we fell in love again (all things go, all things go) with the low-fidelity lushness of Sufjan Stevens' Illinois album. All thanks to one of our favorite multi-hyphenate artists and Wishbone lovers - Janie Killips! Janie defines "folk music" for us and assures us that banjos are not a prerequisite (but they sure do help). And they graciously put up with Grandpa Micha...
Ep 85: Alexis Jaworski Nominates Kate Bush’s “Hounds of Love” 05.11.2024 55:09
This week on This One Goes to 11, we’re discussing yet another grand dame of art pop: the singular, magical, unforgettable Kate Bush! And we’re beyond lucky to have another unforgettable friend of the pod here making the case for Ms. Bush’s “Hounds of Love” - Tyler’s one-time colleague and forever friend Alexis Jaworski. As you’ll find out, Alexis and Kate are a match made in heaven. Alexis came...
Ep 84: Alex “ATM” Mitchell Nominates The Internet’s “Ego Death” 29.10.2024 50:35
We’ve got big St. Louis energy on the pod this week! No, we’re not, at long last, discussing Chingy’s iconic 2003 effort “Jackpot”. Still waiting on that one. But we *are* talking to St. Louisan, multi-hyphenate film professional, and all-around gem of a human being Alex “ATM” Mitchell. ATM and Tyler met playing D&D with their mutual friend Max Bieber and Tyler knew she’d be an excellent guest...
Ep 83: Joe Rivers Nominates SOPHIE’s “Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides” 22.10.2024 1:01:47
On this week’s episode of This One Goes to 11, we speak to a guest FROM THE FUTURE. But only lightly from the future, like just across the International Date Line in Sydney, Australia. That is where Joe Rivers lives and the place from which joined us to shout from his Antipodean rooftop about the sheer perfection of “Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides” by the late, great electronic music iconoclast S...

Prepare those heartstrings, people. They’re about to get pulled as hell! Today we’re FINALLY tackling the one and only Tracy Chapman. Making the case for the perfection of Ms. Chapman’s legendary self-titled debut is loooong-time friend of Michael’s (yes, she’s a Mike Guest) - Gigi Naglak! Gigi is the program director for the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a part-time public historian, and...
Ep 81: Eli Mandel Nominates Everclear's "So Much for the Afterglow" 08.10.2024 56:29
We could live beside the ocean, leave the fire behind, swim out past the breakers, and watch the world die...but then we wouldn't get to talk to actor, former SNL writer, and thirst-inducing Gildan supermodel Eli Mandel about Everclear's So Much for the Afterglow . Eli really cracked the code when it comes to talking about ALL your favorite albums in one episode. We promise this is an Ever...

It's punk week at This One Goes to 11, and we're talking to music journalist and American expat Lindsay Teske about the UK's own Sex Pistols and their only full-length album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols . So break out your finest Vivienne Westwood a...
Ep 79: Michael Fosberg Nominates Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" 24.09.2024 59:30
It's our final IRL episode, and we're feeling - dare we say it - kind of blue. But don't fret. Expert storyteller and fellow podcaster Michael Fosberg is bringing the first jazz album before the tribunal - Miles Davis's Kind of Blue . We recorded this episode on the campus of Northwestern University, home of the Cherubs program, where Michael F. first heard this album (and where Mi...

Uh oh, we’ve got yet another prominent Blue Demon gracing us with his presence on this week’s hot new episode - the Assistant Dean of The Theatre School at DePaul University Jason Beck is making his case for the criminally underrated “Kick” by INXS! Jason was the Director of Admissions at TTS back in Michael and Tyler’s day, so it was a real treat to get to have him on the pod and do a little bit...
Back to 1: The Boss Brings Us Together 13.09.2024 9:59
In this season's first installment of Back to 1, Tyler chews on the part Bruce Springsteen has played in forging his friendship with this week's guest Jack Schultz. He also digs into what makes Bruce so "American" and the songwriting alchemy that has allowed this particular brand of folk-hero rock n' roll to endure so well. Let us know what place Bruce occupies in the history...
Ep 77: Jack Schultz Nominates Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” 10.09.2024 41:33
This week we welcome a real BOSS to the pod. I’m speaking of course about our good buddy Jack Schultz - the esteemed Chicago educator, theatre artist, and entrepreneur. But the Boss tag certainly also applies to the artist for whom Jack is arguing today - the journeyman rock legend himself, Bruce Springsteen! Jack and Tyler have been friends for over 13 years now, having met in undergrad at The Th...
