On this day in 1981 the Eagles beat the Vikings 31-16 in the NFC Divisional Playoffs. The Vikings jumped out 14-0 before the Eagles defense took over. At the end of the day they forced 8 turnovers in what tunred out to be a very sloppy game at the Vet.

On this day in 1935 the Temple Owls and Tulane Green Wave played in the inaugural Sugar Bowl. The game was played in the old Tulane Stadium and the "home" team won 20-14. Temple wouldn't make another bowl game until 1979.

On this day in 2000, the Eagles beat the Buccaneers 21-3 in the NFC Wildcard game. The win was Andy Reid's and Donovan McNabb's first playoff wins as Eagles. This game directly led to me purchasing season tickets to the Birds.

On this day in 1995 the Eagles beat the Lions 58-37 at the Vet in the NFC wildcard game. The Eagles came out motivated after Detroit's All-Pro tackle, Lomas Brown, guaranteed a victory and disrespected the Eagles players.

On this day in 2009 the Temple Owls lost to the UCLA Bruins 30-21 in the Eagle Bank Bowl in Washington, D.C. It was the Owls' first bowl game since 1979 but wouldn't be their last duirng the next 10 years.

On this day in 1990 the Eagles defeated the Cowboys 17-3 in a game in which the defense dominated. They also moved one step closer to a home playoff game, needed to beat the Phoenix Cardinals in the final game to clinch. Calvin Williams caught a Keith Byars pass for a touchdown and Eric Allen scored on an interception return.

On this day in 2014 the Temple Owls crushed the #10 Kansas Jayhawks 77-52 at the Wells Fargo Center. Will Cummings had 19 while Quenton DeCosey and Jesse Morgan added 18 and 17 respectively. The Owls would fail to make the NCAA Tournament but made a run to the NIT semi-finals before returning to the Big Dance the following season.

On this day in 2017 the Temple Owls beat the FIU Panthers 28-3 in the Gasparilla Bowl. Quarterback Frank Nutile won the MVP for the Owls who finished 7-6 in Geoff Collins' first year as head coach.

On this day in 2004, the Sixers lost to the Jazz 103-101. Allen Iverson scored 51 points and had 7 steals. This was the 2nd consecutive game in which he scored over 50 points, becoming the only player in Sixers history to do so. Until Joel Embiid scored 50 in 2020-2021 this was the last time any one scored 50 for the Sixers.

On this day in 1989 the Eagles beat the Cowboys 20-10 in Bounty Bowl II. After a snowstorm earlier in the week the city of Philadelphia did not shovel out the Vet leaving snow and ice readily available to be hurled onto the field. Nobody was safe.
