As we continue our Advent series in the Psalms, we see how the Scripture anticipates the birth of a Savior who will fully identify with our pain to the point that he could even understand what it's like to ask the question: has God abandoned me?"

As we kick off our Advent series in the Psalms, we see from the very beginning that Jesus was purposefully born to reign as King. Psalm 2

In the same way we have expectations about the way our lives will ultimately turn out, we also have expectations for God: expectations about who He is, what He's about, and what it means to follow Him. Sometimes these expectations are wrong, and today we see Jesus bring clarity to the most important question that can ever be asked about him. Mark 8:27-9:1

Mark 8:1-21: Many of our biggest mistakes don't stem from a lock of information, but rather a suppression of, or a forgetting of, the information we already have. We see Jesus encounter two groups of people who are unable to act on the information they've received about who He is, and learn how to fight our own propensity to forget the good news of Jesus.

Mark 7:24-37, 8:22-26 We look at Jesus perform three miracles, each of which function as a sign that takes us along a path to see clearly the greatness of who Jesus is.

Mark 6:30-44 As Jesus feeds a huge crowd, we get a glimpse into how Jesus treats us, and consequently, how we are liberated to treat others as well.

We all struggle with doubt—doubts about God, doubts about people, doubts about ourselves. In this passage, Mark shows us what to do with doubt, and ultimately, where to take it. Mark 6:14-29

Mark 6:1-13 We see two groups of people who are familiar with Jesus respond in two radically different ways, demonstrating how proximity to Jesus doesn't necessarily guarantee a relationship.

Having people overpromise and underdeliver seems to be the norm in our lives. However, we meet three people in Mark who find the opposite is true as it pertains to Jesus, as he shows himself as the one who is more committed to our joy than even we are. Mark 5:21-43

As Jesus encounters a demon-possessed man, we get insight into the seriousness of the human condition, and the superiority of Jesus over our deepest problems. Mark 5:1-20

Mark 4:35-41 As we continue our series in the Gospel according to Mark, we see Jesus put his power fully on display as he takes on a furious storm that threatens the life of his followers, and gives insight for how we can take the correct posture towards the dangers of life as well.
