The Sons are FREE

Several times one of us had to inform the other that our weekend plans were canceled because we’d been roped into performing a church job. Overnight it seemed that the peace and contentment we’ve known in home fellowship for nearly 15 years turned to strife and contention with each other as various church jobs regularly trumped our time together. Often, those who come out of man’s institutional church look for like-minded believers to fellowship with. Citing scripture as the example for how church meetings should be conducted, many look for a house church since that’s the way the Church met originally. But that’s the same error the institutional church makes, meeting in and around a building for an hour or two a week. Transcript available...

The Heavenly Father, who “disciplines those He loves” (Proverbs 3:12), allowed me to experience Job-like devastation, that I might seek HIM in the midst of ruin, and know Him more than simply a giver. It was, as one popular adage goes: to “seek His face, not His hands”.

So why is it so difficult for a man to stop and ask for directions? Even one who knows he’s lost? And what makes us think that doing the same thing everyone else is doing is the right way, or more importantly, that’s what God wants from us? The transcript for this episode can be found at RSS.com .

Leaving and cleaving is a lot more complicated than it used to be. It’s sobering to consider life at the turn of the 20th century; when adult children married and moved to where their careers took them and their only communication with relatives was a hand-written letter.

Among the scriptures I’ve never heard preached, much less read from the pulpit, are some real doozies that lurk like unexploded mines beyond the safe and shallow harbors of institutionalized churchianity.

Scripture is clear that a man is to have just one covering, Christ Jesus. We are not intended to submit to men in an authoritarian sense, where we allow men to “rule over” us. Only to Christ do we submit for authority and rule. Transcript is available at RSS.com .

When I was new in the faith, I had a childish view of repentance. My approach to sin was “lenten” like, wherein I would “give it up for God” who hates sin. Smoking, drinking and cussing – all these were sins I targeted for repentance but failed miserably to eradicate.

Should Christians refrain from voting in man’s elections, from fighting in man’s wars, from enforcing man’s laws, and so on?

The flesh builds with brick and mortar, Christ builds His church with people. The one runs on money and sweat, the other by the Spirit and faith. Transcript available at RSS.com .

Man’s attempt to erect a literal tent, or building, in which we “worship”, or recreate old testament practices is blind to the miracle of Pentecost and the spiritual tabernacle the Lord is building beyond the sight of men.

Since I first received Jesus, my outlook has changed from one of striving to do works and looking for God’s approval after the fact to one of resting in Christ and trusting the Holy Spirit to direct me in concert with God’s work.
