The River Rambler

This week I got to virtually sit down with Steve Szeliga. We got to talking about learning to fish, floating, our mutual intricate knowledge of deep sea fishing, tying in hand, dading, and nap based time telling.

This week I got the chance to speak with Simon Gawesworth. We had a great time discussing growing up along side a fly fishing school, traditional rods in the UK, working with Rio, the trials and tribulations of moving, the joy of teaching, and how he got started fishing with Goldfish.

I had an amazing talk with Mark Sherwood for this week's show. We discussed everything, how he got started fishing, the fun of difficulty, language immersion, Native Fish Society, the importance of local advocates for rivers, all sorts of conservation efforts, and just a teeny tiny bit about white water. All that and we have some fun news too.

I got the chance to talk to Joe Rossano for this week's episode. While our conversation may have been abruptly cut short by an ice storm we still got to discuss his love for small stream fishing, painting, nostalgia for "the good'ole days," the trials and tribulations of engraving, his latest work, WWII pilots, and so much more.

This week I'm joined by Jake and Jesse Dodd. We got to talking about how they both started fishing, switching to spey, making dreams come true at Simms, being trout spoiled, a plague of party barges, and the most dangerous game......mushrooms.

This week I'm talking with Rick Kustich. We discussed Montana fishing trips with his brother, Great Lakes fly fishing, his many books, Muskie fishing, the fun of shorter rods, the creative process, and bears and BC.

I got a chance to talk with Brian Silvey for this week's show and we had a great talk. We discussed his early start to fly tying, guiding, designing rods and developing lines, fly preferences, boats, and some fun steelhead stories.

This week I'm joined by John Shewey, Editor in Chief of American Fly Fishing. We had a great discussion about just about everything, including his first fly, chukar hunting, the importance of public lands, diversifying your work, the morality of fishing, the mysteries of hummingbirds, and how to kill a book.

It's a new year and The River Rambler is back at it. I'm joined by Steven Bird this time around and we got to talking about The Soft Tackle Journal, DIY leaders, fishing with his Grandfather, the issue with hero shots, and being the "Bad-Boy" of fishing in the third grade.

I'm joined by Bob Clay of River Watch Rod's this week. We had a great time discussing his introduction to steelhead, building a house, building rods, fishing and family, and the fun of bamboo.

This week I'm joined by James Millard to about OPST, how he started fishing, knee replacements, the difficulties of fishing and filming, and the powerful potential of fly fishing on TikTok.

I got a chance to speak with Dave Stewart, of the Wet Fly Swing podcast. We discussed the popularity of nymphing, 2020, dories and drift boats, and the sacred art of podcasting.

This week I got to talk with my friend Jeff Kennedy. We covered just about everything you can think of including, drawing flies, drift boats, gymnastics, studying art, and the effectiveness of visual aids in an audio format.

I got talk to Nick Pionessa for this weeks show. We talked about the moment he learned he wanted to fly fish, isolation versus the internet in fishing's evolution, winters in New York, fly tying, and the joys of being your own boss.

I'm chatting with J. Michelle Swope this week. We hit up just about everything like how she started fishing, the joy of fish counts, guiding, drift boats, native fish society, how to collect dog fur, and highly trained attack burrows.

This week I virtually sit down with Dylan Tomine. This week had a great chat about guiding, writing, the goods and bads of pandemic living, the documentary "Artificial" and the cost of hatcheries, and the culinary versatility of salmon eggs.

This week I'm talking with Jason Roulfe. We talk about A River Runs Through It, Fly Fishing Journal, Writer's on the Fly, Guiding, and Dading.

I'm back with Josh Mills this week. We talk about his fishing origin story, baseball, great fly tying materials, and pretzel covered bass.

River Rambler? I haven't heard that name in a long time. The Rambler is back and I'm joined by Charles Gehr, new owner of Anderson Custom Rods. This time around we chat about how he got started fishing, the connections created by working around rivers, Anderson Custom Rods, conservation, and Irish Whiskey

This week I'm talking with my friend Robin Hill. We talk fish, lots of fish, like trout, bass, bluegill, steelhead, carp, muskies...oh, we also talk about photography, our connection to the environment, and some bear stories.

I'm joined by Greg Fitz this week, and we had a great talk. We go over how he got into fishing, the joys of boats, writing a novel and the work he's doing with the Wild Steelhead Coalition.

Whitney Gould and Mike McCune, of Head Hunters Fly Shop, were able to chat with me this week. We had a great talk about how they got started fishing, competitive casting, Pinky & the Brain, guiding, and indicators.

This week Bob White is calling in, and we have a great talk. We go over everything, from his fishing start, schooling, guiding, and even some art talk. As a slight note, we apologize for the the less than stellar sound quality, as we adjust to a more socially distant podcast we continue to learn and adapt.

Zack Williams, publisher and editor of "Swing the Fly Magazine" and editor of "Backcountry Journal" the official publication of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, virtually stopped by to talk this week. We spoke about his start to fishing, starting his own guide service, publishing a magazine, moving across the country, and competitive casting.

This week I'm joined by Mark Shamburg, and Gray Struznik (the part of Andy Richter is played by Colby Olson), and we all had quite a good time. As usual we talk about how they got started fishing, but we also cover some great tips, the difference between fishing and casting a spey rod, and maybe bourbon...just a little bourbon.
