As COVID continues to disrupt competition, local wrestlers and gymnasts are trying to get healthy before the postseason. We hear from Trevian gymnastics coach Jen Pistorius on her team's path and state goals. Then, we get to hoops and how Loyola boys and girls keep picking up close W's, while New Trier girls keep ending up on the wrong side of close games.

In one of the most compelling hoops clashes of the year, New Trier and Simeon battled until the final whistle with the Trevs falling in overtime. We recap the drama and hear from coach Scott Fricke. In the second half, we switch gears and talk gymnastics, swimming and finish with wrestling and how things are looking on the mats.

First, we go around the perimeter with holiday basketball tourneys, giving updates and analysis on what we've seen so far, including hearing coach Tom Livatino talk about his Ramblers fourth-place finish. After 93 years of service to local athletics, New Trier's Gates Gymnasium hosted its final competitions on Dec. 16, welcoming back dozens of alumni for the celebratory affair.
