It's a good day to talk spring sports. After a week off, we are back to discuss New Trier baseball's 5-1 start a year after its 1-7 start. We also answer important questions way too early, like "Is Trevs' soccer a state contender?" Plus, we hit the field with Loyola softball and lament our lack of volleyball coverage thus far.

New Trier Green hockey is back on top, and we look into the 2-0 victory at the United Center over the weekend. We also hear from senior forward Landon Douthit on what the win means for the program. We also spend plenty of time breaking down the hire of Loyola football's new leader, Beau Desherow.

While it wasn't the ideal outcome, it was close enough for New Trier boys basketball, and we talk about their third-place finish — the program's best in half a century. Coach Scott Fricke tells us how they did it up through the final game and what comes next. And just like that, it's springtime, and we pivot to a number of sports already underway.

Four teams remain. And New Trier is one of them. With a victory on Monday, the Trevians advanced to the state finals. We break down the sectional and supersectional victories, hear from coach Scott Fricke and dive into the final four teams in Class 4A. We also keep you updated on the boys and girls state hockey tournaments.

Big weekend coming up in local high school sports. Both New Trier and Loyola boys will fight for conference championships on Friday night. We dive deep into both matchups. On the mats, wrestlers (boys and girls) square off Saturday with a state berth on the line. We also hear from Trevs gymnastics coach Jen Pistorius after her team's sectional appearance.

Senior Jake Fiegen now has more than 1,000 points as a Trevian. We talk about how he got there and hear from Jake in the second quarter. Plus, New Trier roasts Glenbrook S to retake the league lead, and Loyola edges DePaul Prep to keep pace in the Catholic League. We also talk gymnastics, dance and wrestling as the postseason nears.

Loyola Academy stole a top-10 victory while on the road at Brother Rice. While the Ramblers' win streak ended shortly thereafter, we discuss what the big mean wins as the postseason nears. The Trevians on the other hand drop their first CSL South game and are now in a three-way tie atop the division. The newest member of the 300-win club is New Trier basketball coach Scott Fricke, who was honored following No. 300 Friday. Fricke joins us to talk about the milestone. Before that, we recap a big win for Loyola boys basketball and a big turnaround for Highland Park girls, as well as congratulate New Trier bowlers on a regional title.

New Trier girls are on the rise, despite a couple tough losses in Grow the Game. We talk about how big of a threat they are once the postseason gets here, and we hear from coach Teri Rodgers about the team's progress as well as the importance of Grow the Game. We also hit boys hoops, bowling and swimming in this episode.

For our first episode of 2023, we go up and down the court with holiday basketball action and hear from New Trier senior Jake Fiegen — the top scorer at the prestigious Pontiac Holiday Tournament. Then, we take time to remember our favorite stories of 2022.

Local wrestlers took on tough competition, and we recap big finishes by Loyola and Highland Park grapplers. New Trier gymnasts are making progress, such as sophomore Clara Crossgrove who tells us about her 9.55 floor routine in the second quarter. And we don't forget hoops. We give updates on our teams and focus on New Trier's hot streak and coach Teri Rodgers' most recent honor.

Joe breaks down what he saw as New Trier's Ian Brown sank 12 of 14 three-point attempts in a raucous Trevians win against Rolling Meadows. In the second quarter, Brown tells us about his night in the zone. We also discuss another chapter of New Trier-Loyola hockey and more.

Coach John Holecek is walking away from Loyola Academy football after lifting it up to the Illinois high school mountaintop. We discuss Holecek's legacy, accomplishments and what may be next. We then let coach do the talking, giving us his thoughts on the change, the state of Ramblers football, keys to success, his proudest achievements and much more.

They did it — just like they said they would. The Loyola Academy Ramblers are state champions. We start by talking through how they pulled off the 13-3 title win over Lincoln-Way East, then discuss the season that was, some of the top moments and players. We hear from some of the players and answer the big questions, like was this the best Loyola championship team.

Loyola left no doubt in a semifinal victory over previously unbeaten York. We start there, recapping the 30-3 romp in Elmhurst, before turning our sights to the state title matchup with top-seeded Lincoln-Way East. We hear from both coaches and give our keys to victory. Don't miss this one.

Using an early scoring blitz, Loyola tamed the Lions and is moving on to another state semifinals. The unbeaten Dukes are waiting in Elmhurst. We discuss how the Ramblers can knock off York and advance to the state championship. Plus, we break down the Trevians' second straight swimming state title in the pool and hear from coach Mac Guy.

Two down, three to go in Loyola Academy's quest for a football state championship. We recap the Ramblers ground assault in a Round 2 victory and look forward to a matchup with 9-2 Lyons in Round 3.
