The Legion Outriders: A Star Wars Legion Podcast (archived)

It was a big news week for Star Wars Legion, so we've got plenty to talk about: is Chewie everyone's BFF? Are Veers and Krennic the new Wonder Twins? Will we ever find Josh's restraining bolt? These questions, and more, will be answered on this week's Legion Outrider Podcast!  

After stuffing ourselves with Rogue One News and Thanksgiving meals, we jump right into our Christmas wish list, Josh breaks down his actual list for LVO, and we announce our monthly Patreon raffle winners!

With Thanksgiving upon us, the Outriders recorded early, and what a time to record ahead of schedule!  Fantasy Flight blessed us with a bounty of great news, confirming the Jyn Erso/Rebel Pathfinders leak AND dropping a new rules reference that fixes Key Positions and adds a a ton of insight into the upcoming Specialists release.  

We talk about whether or not Key Positions should be used in competitive play, talk about our first draft LVO lists, and finally, bust out the salt, because we got some BIG rumors.  

We're back, and with news! Today we talk about how to field Emperor Palpatine and his Royal Crayolas, which of the newest upgrade cards is going to have the greatest impact, and how to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In honor of the greatest holiday known to mankind, the guys talk about specific battlefield roles for Legion units and recount the clash of the titans when Matt and Josh made their latest Long March. Also, we announce the latest winners of our Patreon drawings!  

So, we haven't really done an episode that focused on the hobby side of things for a good long while, so this week we figured we'd do *JUST* a hobby episode!  Josh has a new 3d printer, so he's been slowly cranking out some terrain pieces for around the store, John's been painting them up, and Matt just revels in the free stuff.  So, the two J's opine on build quality and the general 3d...

Invader League organizer LJ Pena stops by Power 9 to get a game in and talk to us about the upcoming Las Vegas Open. Also this week the guys take a look at the new specialist card reveal and talk about the upcoming emplacement weapons.  

The guys explore some options for creating narrative in Star Wars Legion, we look at how Scout teams and Boba Fett perform on the table, and speaking of mandalorians, we nerd out over the new TV series and what that might bring for the future.  

Boba Fett is finally here! Plus Josh gets his first game in using the terrorist Rebels, while John puts his fascist jack-boot Imperial forces on the table in a "Freaky Friday" role-reversal game. Finally, we announce the winners of our very first Patreon monthly drawing.  

John returns from the frozen abyss, and balance has returned to the force! The reunited gang shares their ideas for new operative units, reveals their thoughts on the Scout Troopers, and speculate on the importance of scenario selection in tournament games.

With NOVA wrapped up, it's kind of a lull in the Legion-verse...in this episode Josh and Matt talk to 2018 NOVA Open Max Firepower 1st place finisher Matt Dunn, discuss a rumor about the Scout Trooper sniper rifle, and recap one of the local Legion events in Las Vegas. Not a lot of hard news, but we hope you'll be entertained nevertheless. 

So, we're pushing this episode a little bit later because we had a really great interview lined up for Thursday, and life (and Louisiana bridge traffic) had a different idea.  So, instead of pushing out half an episode, we thought it was best to delay to give you guys the best content possible! Matt, Josh and John play around with Han Solo, talk about the state of commanders in the game, and discuss some ways to make your terrain at home a little more interesting.  

The guys finally get their hands on Han and the Rebel Commandos, they debate how Pruneface lost an eye, and discuss whether the supply of Legion products is meeting the demand.  

We discuss what units and mechanics we anticipate from the upcoming Clone Wars factions, John curses his defense dice despite a victory, and we are joined by LJ Pena, Table Top Simulator Invader tournament organizer, to talk about how TTS is helping to shape the meta.  

After the first major tournament featuring Star Wars Legion, we chat with GenCon Day 1 Winner, Nick Freeman. John's back and we let him geek out about wookies, and Josh reveals his dirty secret.  

Well, the GenCon In-Flight report did not disappoint at all.  The Outriders take a look at all the goodness announced in Indianapolis, from Wookies of all types to the newly announced Specialists and what might be the biggest news about the future of the game.  

The guys explore the Priority Supplies mission cards, the Rules Update 1.1, and discuss how the NOVA rules can impact the Legion Tournament scene.  

The day has finally come! Star Wars Legion Design and Developers Alex Davy and Luke Eddy kick it with us for an hour, and talk influences, game-testing, and a glimpse of things to come for Star Wars Legion. You don't want to miss this!

This guy has been crunching the numbers so we don't have to, and he lets us know what units are giving you the most bang for your buck. Matt is done with his timeout, so we let him on the mic to talk about the biggest release Legion has seen thus far: barricades. We also discuss the future of Legion and what dynamics can add variety and shake up the trooper-spam meta.  

The guys recap our latest local tournament, John talks about a surprising MVP unit that has outperformed his expectations, and they break down the new FFG rules forum, and how that might shape the way we officiate competitive play. (We apologize ahead of time, but there was an audio issue with Matt's mic...it will be addressed before the next episode.)  

FFG brought out the big guns today! The guys break down the rules on the Rebel 1.4 FD Laser Cannon Team and the Imperial E-Web Heavy Blaster Team, talk about how to use them effectively, and debate which one is better. We also talk a bit about Kelly Marie Tran's departure from Social Media and how to set up an Escalation League in your area.
