Kristel van Houte drops into the studio to talk about the work preserving endangered species on Karioi - and it looks like it's time to keep your dog on a leash again as the birds are about to start laying eggs

Good news about the Oi population as we check in with the Karioi Project about what they've been up to over the last 6 months. There's a call out for volunteers and we look at the many classes and projects they have for kids plus we talk about the Trap-A-Thon!

Kristel from The Karioi Project joins us ahead of the Waikato Biodiversity Forum event in Raglan where The Project will be presenting - and doing a tour.

Georgia, Isabelle and Kylie join us to talk about the problems they've been having with pests this breeding season. It's not all bad news though as we catch up with other Karioi Project news and meet Kylie their new Seabird Ranger.

We ask Kristel some questions about the Regional Council since it's election season before returning to news about the new hatching season and work being done at Toreparu wetland south of Mt Karioi.

Kristel and Georgia from the Karioi project are hosting Melissa McLuskie from the New Zealand Penguin Initiative following their success with Little Blue Penguins on the Whaingaroa Coast. We take the chance to dive deep on the state of the Little Blue Penguin and the work NZPI is doing.

Isabelle and Georgia join us with news that the Oi (Grey Faced Petrel) are getting ready for a new breeding season. It's time to keep dogs on a leach at the far end of the beach and check those traps.

The Oi and Little Penguin Chicks are thriving at the moment but Kristel and the team from the Karioi Project are getting ready for Stoats to come, as well as keeping an eye on the amount of dogs on the loose at the moment

Kristel remembers Malibu Hamilton's pivotal role in the formation of the Karioi Project, plus we check on how the Oi and Little Penguin chicks are are doing at the moment

It's nesting season round the Maunga and Kristel has a simple message for people walking down to the far end of the beach where Penguins and Oi are nesting. We also talk about their successful fundraiser and the on-going Bittern count

7 new Little Blue Penguin nests have been found while the Karioi Project is also fundraising to get a vehicle that can take their rangers up into the mountain

The Karioi Project is joining with WEC to bring a Little Penguin expert to Raglan following on from their efforts to protect Little Penguins on Wainui Beach. Kristel also brings us news about their Matuku Muster, Bait Deploy days and their new givealittle campaign.

Kristel and Isabel join us to talk about how the backyard trappping program started and how they can help landowners in town deal with pests that are a problem both for the town and for the Maunga

Kristel is about to meet up with a class from Fraser High who are in town to supplement their agricultural studies - just on of the many ways the Project is involved in education

And can you help the Project with their Regional Council funding by letting the council know how much you appreciate their work. We ask Kristel about weeds instead of pests today and look at how your rates get spent locally via the Karioi Project

The Karioi Project is focused on it's bait stations at the moment holding volunteer events up the maunga to get some work done.

After growing up in Raglan Louie is back in the community working as a Ranger for the Karioi Project. He's in the studio with project manager Kristel to give us an update on the Oi chicks and the state of play on the Maunga

1080 isn't part of the arsenal used by the Karioi Project but they do use more than mechanical traps in their attempts to protect life on the mountain.
