The Hill Church

The nations rage and the people are plotting. This was true in the time of David and if we look around today, we can see the same thing. But we have a King who is enthroned and will lead us through.

Overall, we are failing to hear each other. When God is asking Israel to be faithful, He begins with the request listen/obey, as if they are the same word.

Many people seek God’s clear direction when it comes to their life. Just like Israel in the wilderness, God still desires His people to learn to walk by faith and trust in His promises.

Imagine listening in on a private phone call between God and Moses. This unique conversation is set in the direct center of all of Moses’ writings.

After the people of Israel sinned, Moses is looking for assurance that God will continue to be with them. After our own sin we can be looking for the same thing and we need to be reminded who the Lord is.

When making a special dish, the ingredients, along with the correct process, are both required for a great outcome. Shortcuts and substitutes don't make for better disciples.

It is difficult to always understand how God is working in the challenging seasons of our lives. However, He keeps calling us to trust Him with all of it...the good and the bad.

From the time sin enters into the world, things begin to break down. At the same time, God’s masterful plan for redemption is underway.

The opening pages of the scripture begins with God creating a perfect garden. Also found in the opening pages is man introducing sin into the world. Thank God for God, who promises that He would provide a way for humanity to be free from the sin that separates us. How? Through faith in Jesus!

Following Resurrection Sunday we may find ourselves asking “What now?” We can look at the disciples as they formed the early church for guidance on how to live out the Christian life in light of the Resurrection. In this we can find confidence for spreading the gospel in our modern context.

Some scars tell stories of clumsy falls, while other scars tell wonderful stories of heroic sacrifices. Jesus’ beautiful scars continue to tell the story of both and some.

Those who have the life of Christ should look like Christ as they live like Him, love like Him, any do all to bring glory to Him.

Oftentimes, the world is more repulsed than attracted to the christian faith. We know there are elements of the gospel message that challenges and confronts people where they are. However, we should be some of the most loving people in our culture who live a compelling lives.

You know "The Talk" right? Every culture and ethnic group on the planet have varying versions of it. Some basic talks contain information from one person helping another better understand how they will be seen and treated in the world. Other talks contain vital information that could actually preserve ones life. In John 16, Jesus gives His followers, “The Talk”.

Examples are the best way to know how to do something. In this part of John 15, Jesus gives us the action steps of Love.

Has anyone else noticed we have become a very opinionated culture? No matter what you say or do, you can find extensive lines of people who disagree with you and what you are doing. This often causes people to be paralyzed from doing or saying anything. Today, companies are experiencing resignations and retirements from leaders at an alarming rate. The same trends are impacting the church of Jesus...

Why do we exist and what are we called to do? Organizations can quickly confuse their goals, vision and objectives. Why? The Hill Church? NW Roanoke? NWLOVE?

Jesus lives to prepare a place to connect us to the host, and to give us a new home life.

Jesus’ washing of the disciples feet, demonstrates a level of humility that contradicts leadership goals in our culture.

John 12 is the first time we see Jesus in his ministry excepting public worship. Mary the sister of Lazarus leads the way unashamedly blessing the King in the presence of others.

To be honest, most disruptions in our life are inconvenient. They often come when we don’t want them and they get in the way of our plans. In John 11, Jesus disrupts a families' plan by failing to meet their expectation, and He disrupts deaths plan by raising His friend back to life.

Jesus' description of a good shepherd sounds wonderful, especially when we are very familiar with bad ones. Jesus tells his audience the truth about the failures of their leaders and how to recognize the good shepherd. The one they all longed for, and the one we need.

James tells us that the Christian life consists of various trials that actually produce endurance. Instead of ducking and dodging challenges, maybe we should learn how to count it all Joy.

The word Love is one of the most overused placeholder words in our language. When looking through the scriptures of how Jesus describes God’s love, it seems we often use this word in the wrong way.
