The Hill Church

Husbands are commanded to Love their wives like Jesus loves the Church. In this section of scripture directed toward the family, almost double the directives are given to the Husband. 

One of the most triggering words in our day is submission. As Paul begins to give instructions inside of the Christian home, he begins with wives submitting to their husbands.

In John chapter 4 we find the best gift ever...given to a very unlikely candidate.

Jesus is born and the message of great joy is being proclaimed. As we think about this message we will consider what does the Bible say joy is and why is there always joy where Jesus is?

John the Baptist is a different type of leader. He doesn’t just tell the people how they should live, he lives out an example for us all to follow.

When it comes to looking forward to the coming of Jesus, John the Baptist had a special role. There is much for us to take away from his very intentional ministry.

We live in a society where things are made to be disposed...sadly we also treat people this way. However, we were created for lifelong relationships that work best when we are anchored by a Hope that lasts.

During uncertain times, our society usually attempts to stabilize conflict with the same efforts that have consistently failed in times past. Restoration is only found in the one true King of all, incapable of failure.

Paul begins to tell the church in chapter 5 to imitate our great hero in more than just word, but also our deeds.

It’s so easy to turn back and tap into our old way of living, especially if you're new to the faith. Paul pushes the church to leave those things in the past and put on the things of Christ.

After sharing rich theological truth, Paul now directs the church to now walk out everything they've just learned.

Paul’s prayer for the church in Ephesus was for them to be rooted, firm and established. All things the Church needs today.

Why do you think the church in many places continues to be largely segregated? Have you been apart of a multi cultural multi ethnic church community?

Paul begins to address deep rooted hostility between Jew and Gentile and even reminds his gentile readers of their past hopelessness. However, we are reminded of the profound truth that Christ’s work is truly perfect.

But God… is the most accurate statement when you think about our situation before Jesus changed the believers condition.

Paul prayers directly for the church to understand better what they have already received from the Lord.

We often jump to the last page and attempt to live into the best version of a hero, champion or success story. Before we get to the "how to" in Ephesians, Paul takes us through the "what is", "what happened" and "who we are".

The Bible is foundational to our lives as Christians. Psalm 119 celebrates the gift of Gods word and the real impact it’s had on the psalmists life. This can force us to take a minute to reflect if we view scripture as our firm foundation just as this writer does.

Being alone can be difficult, being alone during the most challenging times can be unbearable. If good company can change things, imagine being hosted by the good shepherd.

Oftentimes when we find ourselves in difficult situations we expect our help to come in various forms: Finances, relationships, self medication and so on. In this Psalm, the author directs us to where believers should direct their gaze for help.

Navigating trials in life can be a tough thing. It can raise questions about who God is and what He is doing in our lives. Sometimes when we do everything right, things don’t turn out like we thought. When it comes down to it, we need to take time to remember who God is, who He has revealed himself to be, and what He’s already done.

It is very easy to fool people with our motives. However, it's impossible to fool the Lord with disingenuous motives. This is why we should do a routine check on why we do what we do especially if it's for Him.

How do you handle disappointment when God doesn’t respond the way you want? This Psalm speaks from a place of firm trust in the Lord.

Remembering the goodness of God can be challenging in difficult times. In this Psalm, David gives us an example of why we should declare the goodness of God at all times. As Christians, we can experience the goodness of God at all times.

Where do you go and who do you call when you are in a desperate situation? It’s a telling question because the answer is where your trust lies.
