John 21 gives us some insight into the time between Jesus’ Resurrection and Jesus’ Ascension. He appeared to his followers to further instruct, encourage and spend time with them.

The guilty man was set free, the innocent man was mistreated and convicted as if he committed the guilty man’s crimes. The highest display of injustice has become the greatest gift possible for humanity.

During the Advent season we remember the birth of our Lord. In this passage the Apostle John sees a vision that forces us to think beyond just the Nativity scene itself. We see that there is a cosmic battle that has been raging since the garden and the birth of Christ is not just a story but it is the event kicks off the crushing of the head of the dragon the serpent of old.

God gives careful instructions for the pastors He’s charged to care for His people. 2 Timothy lays out some of the instructions Paul gives his son in the ministry, Timothy.

We often miss the good things the Lord accomplishes in our times of trouble. In his hands our most troubling situations become spectacular.

How is it that we experience joy?

As we are nearing the crucifixion of Jesus, people’s agendas are being exposed. In this passage we encounter the Pharisees, Judas, and a woman who anoints Jesus. Looking at these three people can help us assess our agendas to see if they line up with the Kingdom, or if we are using the Kingdom for our own agenda.

Jesus now turns His attention to the end times. The destruction of the temple and the preserving of the saints are key points in this chapter. 

As Jesus is finishing His reasoning with the religious leaders, he observes a poor widow whose act of faith catches His attention.

Jesus tells the chief priests and the scribes the most straightforward parable in response to their evil intentions. In this parable the listeners, and now readers, receive great insight into the Father’s great love.

The fig tree in Mark 11 has a lot in common with the temple. It looked promising but was misrepresenting its true purpose. Jesus displays a great frustration because what was intended to be a house of prayer dedicated to God, had become a place of corruption and extortion.

Jesus is now going to publicly announce that He is the Messiah. On the surface, He gets a rightful welcome, but this sets the stage for the exposing of many hearts that are not in the right place. Which leads to the question, how can we truly be servants in God’s Kingdom?

Jesus continues to flip things upside down as He moves closer to the cross. His disciples and followers are learning a completely different way to relate to God and others.

As Jesus concludes His teaching, some Pharisees came to test him on the subject of divorce. They had worked out a man-centered response to divorce that caused people to be more faithful to their desires, than the God who created marriage.

Sometimes in life, there are moments when extreme actions are necessary. In Mark 9:42-50, Jesus teaches that when it comes to living a life of purity, drastic measures are not just an option—they are a necessity. He warns his listeners that ongoing sin has no place in the life of his followers or in the community of believers. Are you willing to do whatever it takes to live a life that honors God...

This sermon explores the theme of true greatness as taught by Jesus in Mark 9. It contrasts worldly desires for recognition and pride with the biblical call to humility and service. By examining the disciples' argument and Jesus’ response, the sermon encourages us to realign our motivations and pursue greatness through serving others and focusing on Christ.

Jesus just showed His glory to three of His disciples then came down from the mountain to find the rest of His disciples struggling. They’ve failed to cast out the demon from a boy and the father is now turning to Jesus for help. This account is a reminder of what happens when we take our eyes off Jesus, and the father of this boy provides a good picture of what our posture toward Jesus should be.

NW Roanoke is our local context for ministry. We are very familiar with the needs and opportunities in our backyard. The gospels give us a clear inside view of Jesus’ life, of which was filled with challenges and dishonor. However, there are a few instances where the Glory of the God-Man breaks forth to remind us who He really is.

Peter's public failure immediately follows one of Peter's greatest moments. Life is like this for us at times, especially when we lose sight of the things of God.

Jesus turns to ask his disciples two questions, “who are people saying that I am?”, and “who do you say I am?” Today, this is the most important question facing us when it comes to eternal life.

In this passage a deaf man comes into contact with Jesus and it changes his life forever. But it goes beyond that as there is a hope that Jesus will heal us all in due time because he does all things well.

Often Jesus becomes the last resort after people try to get answers and results from various places. This mother looked at her daughter’s situation and knew Jesus was the only answer. 

Tim Keller had a simple way of explaining the Gospel: “You are more wicked than ever dared believe and yet, you are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than you ever dared hope.” This mother understood the depths of Jesus' mercy more than most.
