Dog Day Afternoon with Hannah Philibert 31.05.2022 1:05:41
Hannah Philibert stops by the Healing Club to have a personal conversation about comedy and life in general. Trigger warning: there's some stuff about heavy topics like romantic obsessions, family violences, and other bitter realities. These topics are explored with what I trust others will understand to be an appropriate level of respect and nuance, but I could be wrong because I don't understand...
My Own Private Idaho with The Peacock Sisters 28.05.2022 1:00:03
Emily and Sara Peacock join the podcast once again to have a long conversation about art, comedy, therapy, children, suffering, death, and dating. I ask them which one thinks they're better than me and we get down to the bottom of that deep question: Do You Think You're Better Than Me? I should have named the podcast that question, but it's too late to change the title now. If you hear this podcas...
Wet Hot American Summer with Joe Follodori 19.05.2022 1:03:04
Joe Follodori joins the podcast again to have a talk about his new record release (he's releasing a greatest hits compilation)(his band is The Mathletes). We shoot the breeze and get into subjects that may or may not be philosophical in nature. It's a good time and a fun hang. The last movie I watched was called Wet Hot American Summer.
All That Heaven Allows with Joe Navarro 11.05.2022 59:26
I ramble about Ukrainian history during the intro to the podcast--something about how The Soviet Union suppressed Ukrainian nationalists and starved out the Ukrainian peasant class in the 1930's in order to keep the union together, even at the expense of millions of lives--anyway--the podcast goes all over the place, as always. Joe talks about his family. I talk about working as a strip club dj. A...
The Taking of Pelham 123 with Will Loden 30.04.2022 1:01:31
Will drops by for another appearance on the podcast I record in my apartment. He compliments my improved living situation and financial success as we discuss music at the strip club, comedy in Houston, totalitarian psychology and other serious topics like that. The conversation goes everywhere and pivots unexpectedly from silly to somber and back over and over again in a rollercoaster ride of thri...
Pretty Woman with Joe Hanrahan 25.04.2022 58:56
Joe and I hang out after a comedy show one night and play pool, get drunk, and talk shop about life at the gentlemen's club in Houston, TX where we both work as late night djs. It's not an important episode or a gossipy episode, but it is funny and we're both real about the attitudes we have to wear all day as purveyors of fantasy in the adult entertainment industry. Listen and share.
Murmur of the Heart with Andy Saenz and Two Secret Guests 04.04.2022 1:06:26
This is a mysterious episode with a million tangents and surprises. We talk about incest, love, honor, truth, beauty, and patriotism. This conversation is heavily edited and the reading is particularly abstract. My boyfriend Andy is a funny guy with a catchphrase that goes: "You'll get my bill." Hopefully this is the one that goes viral and makes everyone as famous as the 1971 Louis Malle psychodr...
976-EVIL with Chelby Morgan 29.03.2022 58:27
Chelby Morgan started standup six months ago and has since won seven local contests that I can think of: Doug Dalton's Monday Night War roast battle, Patrick Eady's American AF monthly contest, Mycal Dede's Superbowl of New Jokes, The Vatos Locos Clean(ish) Comedy challenge at the Houston Latino Learning Center, and the You Look Like roast battle at Rudyard's for three months straight. She is to H...
Falling Down with Warren Wright and Greg Deal 22.03.2022 1:39:31
Two separate interviews from two favorite guests: Warren Wright and Greg Deal. One talk is about sadness and the other is a celebration of everyday happiness. Together, Warren and I have a sad on sad face off to see who's more sad in spite of all the good in the world and everyone who loves us. We both win! It's a great time! Life affirming! Stories about our saddest Christmas memories! It's all i...
Jubilee with Emily and Sara Peacock 17.03.2022 59:45
Sisters Emily and Sara Peacock join me to talk on the podcast about standup comedy, romance, ambition, betrayal, and more. This is a fun, friendly, gossipy podcast full of good vibes and crazy stories. There is not one dull moment or stupid confession that will have terrible consequences. Nothing bad happens. Very entertaining.
Diamonds of the Night with Zahid Dewji 10.03.2022 50:21
Zahid Dewji is a funny, likable, thoughtful and creative comedian from Houston who's appeared on countless comedy festivals, toured with famous people, and headlined comedy clubs everywhere. Zahid works well with others, solves problems, and makes quick jokes. Together, we have a great time on this podcast that deals with issues and topics such as life, death, forgiveness, love, terror and consent...
Licorice Pizza with Micah Green 03.03.2022 1:26:00
I have a long conversation with the most improvisational-ly gifted and imaginative-ly coordinated comedian in Houston: Micah Green. We reach all sorts of dazzling heights of hilariousness and confessional embarrassment as we describe what we've learned from being bad people in relationships and comedy. There is a reading in the middle. We don't mention the movie Licorice Pizza.
Auntie Mame with Julia Serrano and Molly Brown 24.02.2022 58:46
This episode was about Dan Aykroyd, crying, relationships, Steely Dan, strip club politics, restaurant woes, and comedy jokes. We leave names unnamed and stones unturned. It's an entertaining, goofball podcast with a couple of my favorite people in town.
First Blood with Valentin Perales 17.02.2022 1:00:40
Whatever we talked about was two weeks ago, and the world has changed. The Super Bowl Half-Time Show was an enormous success, Russia's all but declared war on the Ukraine, glaciers the size of Florida have broken off from Antarctica, the virus evolves faster every day, love is in the air and no one mentions Rambo even once. Take it or leave it. Mostly funny.
Defending Your Life with Russell Simek 11.02.2022 1:13:11
I would like to believe this is an interesting, funny conversation between two reasonably educated and half-intelligent people who've attempted to become famous at standup comedy for years and years. Should that sound to you amazing or diverting in a way reminiscent of the Albert Brooks movie DEFENDING YOUR LIFE, then maybe this is the podcast for you.
The Deer Hunter with Coleman Cox and Keith Ray 04.02.2022 1:16:37
In this episode I get together with some old friends to talk about the Mandela Effect, gay visibility and representation in popular media, the movie Casino and some other things like getting older, losing focus, and finding out that the future will only ever be worse than the present. As usual, the conversation goes all over the place between highs and lows and a reading from W.S. Merwin's prose c...
Inherent Vice with Scotty Peterson 29.01.2022 59:37
This is an off the cuff, casually charismatic and sensitive talk encompassing a wide range of topics such as death, madness, suicide, grief, true love, rejection, comedy, and all sorts of other anxieties. Scotty and I used to podcast IS THAT MY BEER OR YOUR BEER? together and alternate weeks as Boondocks open mic hosts for years. There were some satisfying moments of hilarity and wisdom in this ra...
Wild Strawberries with Jill Weiner and Caitlin Peluffo 18.01.2022 48:21
Technical difficulties wiped out the first half of our conversation, but we had an excellent second half that is followed by a reading of my only published work to date: a story entitled "Stay Horny, Stupid." It's about romance, comedy, money, anxiety, compromise, how people rate each other, and how cruel everything is. Very funny. Caitlin Peluffo has been on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Ji...
Eraserhead with Jamal Rahal 10.01.2022 52:08
I think there's some gossip, some tea, some dish, some rhetoric and a few zingers and/or good ones all throughout the way on this labor of love I call an informal attempt to preserve Houston comedy history: the voices of The Healing Club. Jamal Rahal is the co-host and co-guest on this crossover comedy dual podcast episode, which is also an episode of Cover It All with Jamal Rahal. He is one of th...
200 Cigarettes with Lots of Guests 25.12.2021 2:04:31
This is a painstakingly put together review episode with some of the funniest and most interesting moments from a lot of my favorite guests. I left a lot of things out. I'll do this again and include more people next time. For now, these are some of my favorite pieces from some of the best episodes. This is a mix-tape.
His Girl Friday with Andy Huggins 12.12.2021 52:16
This episode features Houston standup comedy icon and mainstay Andy Huggins. I talk to him about his career and his artistic objectives. We have a fun time discussing movies, celebrity, politics, family, philosophy and more! Quality entertainment! Check it out!
The Fly with Tyler Groce 29.11.2021 1:04:25
We try to get deep in this one? I think we succeed. Tyler Groce and I attempt to decipher meaning from a weird dream I had. The conversation veers from comedy to celebrities to respectability politics and social delusions. It's a good time. Lots of singing of Prince and Kim Petras and Adele. Great impressions of Taylor Swift, Kenan Thompson, Randy Newman, and more. Super funny? At times. More ofte...
Citizen Kane with Bob Morrissey 22.11.2021 48:52
This is an entire episode of me talking, so it's completely crazy and unfettered free associative list-reading and confession blasting. No one deserves to hear this. No one will ever understand it the way I do: it's a lot of lists of songs and jokes and dates and numbers. There are quotes and scenarios stolen from books by Louise Gluck, E. Annie Proulx, Jack Weatherford, Joseph J. Ellis, Peter Car...
Motel Hell with Jordan Brady 14.11.2021 1:13:38
Two silly guys with no idea what to say next have a comedy bickering contest in which the person with the most "out there" persona gets to feel validated and special. That's what this is. Nothing more. Not groundbreaking or sensitive or emotional in any way. Pure comedy. Nothing but comedy and Jack Nicholson impressions. Pretty good.
Sexy Beast with Adrian Frimpong 09.11.2021 55:56
In this episode we went to wild places improvising ideas about such people as Baron Trump and Jaffer Khan. Probably the most silly and fake aggressive episode I've done in a while. Don't listen if you don't wanna hear a guy gettin' busted chops. I get my chops busted a few times. Adrian Frimpong is a joy to talk to. One for the ages. This is a good time capsule. Pretty sad? Not really. This is one...
