What do we do when painful things happen? Where do we turn when we are overwhelmed by guilt? What do we say when our hearts grow numb from sin? In Luke 13:1-9, Jesus shows His love, mercy, and patience for His people. In repentance and faith, He is calling us to trust Him, seek Him, and know Him.

What actions should we take if we want to seek Jesus’ kingdom? How might Jesus find us if He showed up today? In Luke 12:35-48, Jesus calls us to a kingdom readiness, whereby His servants are ready and watchful, serving faithfully as good stewards. While Jesus’ challenge is sobering, it is one we are called into and find kingdom rewards within His instruction.

The human heart is prone to many misplaced and misguided fears. In today’s passage, Jesus reminds us that there’s one fear, the Fear of the Lord, that can free us from all our other fears. Christian joy is not tethered to circumstances or feelings but to the plans, purposes and promises of God. As such, it is not circumstantial. Rather, Christian joy is a settled state of contentment, confidence and hope that can only be found in Jesus. In this message, we explore some of the reasons we have joy as Christians in the Christmas narrative of Luke 2:1-11.

We follow how Luke adapts the themes of 1 Samuel as he announces the arrival of Jesus the King. We see how the Old Testament describes the role of the Queen Mother, and how lowly Mary is lifted into it. In all eras, God lifts up the lowly who are faithful to him, and so we are encouraged to hear and do God’s word to enter into the joy of his kingdom.

God sent his one and only son into the world to demonstrate his love for us. We can know God through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. Knowing God without exception results in us loving people and we are commanded to love one another.

Through Jesus’ death and resurrection has provided us a way to to have fellowship with Him and each other. The Communion Table gives us an opportunity to love God and others.

Peace is an advent theme we celebrate each year. The theme of peace is a reminder to us that in Jesus, God declares peace, restores us in peace, and satisfies our waiting.
