The Graveyard Shift Horror Podcast

We continue the theme of Video Game horrors. After the success of Werewoves Within, we needed a break from quality, wit, charm, and logic of any kind. Which led us to Uwe Boll. It was only a matter of time. but bear with us, as we endure this for your entertainment. It gets better next week. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would...

We say farewell to last months theme as we stay indoors and enjoy some Video Game Horrors. We are joined by Eric and comic artist Ryan Estrada to discuss Werewolves Within. We haven’t played the game but this movie made an impression on all of us to be sure! We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to...

This is how we end Cult Classics. Not with a bang, but with a retro style film from 2021 that looks like 1986. This stars a few 80’s actors we’ve covered on this podcast in the past. but does this capture the charms of the era it’s trying to emulate? Rotten Tomatoes thinks so, but do WE? tune in and find out. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme mo...

Don’t just sit there listening to any old podcast, there’s a podcast that’s waiting to talk to YOU, yes YOU! For the low low price of 1 hour and 41 minutes you can enjoy the bombastic David Bronstein , KING of late night infomercials and the boss from the series Doghouse, as we discuss his ability to travel through time, his billionaire club, and occasionally, this weeks Cult Classic, the perfect...

We aren’t done with Ari Aster for this months “Cult Classics” and fans of the show know Mike had some opinions when he had no idea what was going on. Will a repeat viewing make it make sense? Join us along with guest Gio to find out! We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to help keep the show going...

What Cult Classics marathon would be complete without Christopher Lee’s favourite film that he had a big hand in creating, as well as appearing in, The Wicker Man? We couldn’t tackle a classic like this alone however, so joining is horror film director and actor, Hunter Johnson! We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make...

It’s spring time, when a young mans fancy turns to thoughts of fertility rituals to ensure good crops for an isolated community. So we turn to the “Cult Classics” and begin with Midsommar, the Ari Aster summer flick about vacations and college theses gone awry…. OR to plan. depending on your perspective. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months....

We finish Animation April with a body horror classic. Akira had an impact, the same way an asteroid does. It took anime to a level that the rest of the world was unable to just push into “niche” animation, or “foreign cartoons” anymore. We talked a lot about Satoshi Kon this month, and this is where his story truly began cause he was HEAVILY influenced by the works of the creator of this manga, Ka...

We started Animation April with the final Satoshi Kon film Paprika, but now we’re taking it to his directorial debut, Perfect Blue. This movie had an impact on a generation of viewers and even directors, and we’re going to get into why. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to help keep the show go...

Animation April continues with a throwback to the past with a throwback to Western fantasy animation. Particularly the rotoscoped animation style of Ralph Bakshi and the background settings of Frank Frazetta. this makes the style visually unique, to both the benefit and detriment of those elements. And the cast is filled with known fantasy enthusiasts and figures, like Lucy Lawless, Patton Oswalt,...

Animation April has begun. We kick it off with the last film completed by Satoshi Kon before his tragic passing in 2010. As was his style this film blended reality and fantasy in amazing ways, and even clearly inspired Inception, while dealing with some trippy and scary ideas. Suffice to say we love this film. but can this streak of hand drawn horror continue? Spoiler, YES. this is a no loser line...

What do you do with a classic film that has no copyright at all? Anything you want, including making an animated remake that COULD have removed some of the lamer aspects of the original, but instead ruins nearly every opportunity this new medium could have presented. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued s...

We decided to check out a modern film about a modern problem, renting homes for a couple days and instead of the usual worries like bedbugs, structural damage, foul odours, etc, its the eternal classic problem… how to deal with a massive feral cave woman. This movie is very intentional in every part, for its high points and sadly one of its lowest points as well. We are hosted at Captivate where y...

It’s no secret we are huge Bruce Campbell fans here and it starts with the very beginning, Evil Dead. While some people had “remake fears” even Bruce was among them. They had a stroke of genius to amend this. Not make it a remake. But that doesn’t change the confusion since the title never changed. But its very good and we get into why that is. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to se...

We all have new house jitters when moving into a new place. But most of them are “are there hidden flaws, is it a bad neighbourhood, whats the schools like?” and not “is there a ghost inside the snuff film in the attic and did my husband purposely buy a HOUSE just to find inspiration for his creative slump?” This movie is the latter, and the choices of this writer pales in comparison to the writer...

As Black History Month ends, we close on an artistic note, and Mike reveals he struggles with arthouse flicks (if you haven’t found that out on our Suspiria episode) when they have a message but leave it up to you. but John and Maki had a great time, albeit with some ganga of their own. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like...

We keep Black History going, and leave the 40’s to plow ahead to the age of Disco, Funk, and find ourselves hanging with one STRAAAANGE dude. Join Maki , John, and Mike on a trip to the mean streets of Blaxploitation as we discuss Blacula and the missed opportunity of a throwaway character named after cookware. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme...

Maki streets’s back, all right. Our streaming friend returns to the show as we continue celebrating Black History Month with a movie that has an exemplary depiction of a black character that is VERY counter to the majority of depictions at the time. We continue with the history to provide context, and why this movie stand out in a very positive way. Shame its utterly baffling, boring, and a total...

We begin another Black History Month on the show and we start with the poorly marketed but excellently made stop-motion dark fantasy by Key & Peele. this was requested by our guest, Dodie Arnold and we are so grateful. The many layers of this family flick has so much to say about pain, loss, institutional slavery, and family. She also runs a non profit , and serves on a board We are hosted at...

We are back after a brief break to see the Foo Fighters horror film which is spoiler, FANG-Tastic. Suggested by Rich who joins us for this episode, this is just well written, and features legendary horror talent and practical effects. We cannot sing the praises of this movie enough. RIP Taylor Hawkins. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. I...

Sometimes a classic just gets overlooked and buried in history. This is such a case. a comedy horror that is just well written in terms of banter, well shot in terms of kills, and just well cast. A vampire tears through an office leaving the office suckup and a few others to find a way to survive the ultimate downsizing. Also it stars Pedro Pascal without that terrible mando stach. We are hosted a...

What do you get when you take a cop with a dead father, a police station that has NO night crew, and a script that leaves you wondering what was real or if things were just a delusion, and mix it with a wasted premise? you get this movie that is mediocre at best and total fustercluck at worst. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you wou...

We kick off the new year with a Hammer film. unfortunately this is when the studio was clearly in decline in terms of writing and effects. We have a lot to discuss so lets start this year with some complaining! We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to help keep the show going and get access to bonu...

The Christmassacre of 2022 ends like most Christmas dinners do, starting with hope, joy, love and great food, but ending with a TON of cleanup and feeling bloated. Jeffery Combs stars as an owner of a unique pawn shop that deals exclusively in items that have a unique story. Sadly most of them suck. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If y...

The Christmassacre continues! We avoided the hassle of the stores and got this movie online, unlike the running of the shoppers that we see in this movie. This has Bruce Campbell and Devin Sawa as employees of a store facing a horde of mindless shoppers bent on consuming. oh and they then become zombies. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months....
