We sometimes think God is not working… When we don’t see visible signs of his activity, we figure he’s gone dark. But the quiet, invisible hand of God is always working, always functioning, always operational.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ. Disney didn’t create it. Pixar can’t animate it. Marvel can’t match it. Jesus came out of the grave alive! And he can come into your life and be alive in you! Paul put it this way in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”  

Today we come to the part in the Easter story where the Gospel according to Matthew reveals that Jesus was not only accused for us, he was also punished for us.  In my place!  Instead of me!

"Accused for Me" Our Easter series will look at some of the events leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, and how those events expose the human soul.  We are the ones who are on trial here!   Today as we focus on the accusation and trial of Jesus, we will see how the four primary characters involved in the trial represent us and show us four ways people still respond to...

For the last decade of his life the Apostle Paul has intentionally engaged strategic cities like Athens, Corinth, and Ephesus with the gospel. But now we will observe Paul playing defense. The Apostle becomes a prisoner, and the rest of his ministry recorded in Acts is basically a set of reactions to opposition.

"Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." These words are often repeated as part of the Lord's Prayer, but how devoted are we really to the expansion of God's Kingdom on earth? 

What makes a leader?  Is it his ability to “fill a room?” Is it her speaking ability? Maybe the leader is the one with the most Instagram followers?  Listen to Paul’s farewell message to the Ephesians elders to find out what characteristics are important for Christian leaders.

In recent years we have heard about several high-profile farewell tours, like the Rolling Stones in 2019.  Mick Jagger is 75 years old!  They wanna make one more big splash before they get out of the pool!  In Acts 20, Paul completes his ministry in Greece, and then he’s ready to hit the road on his last missionary journey.  This is his farewell tour, so to speak!

The New Testament provides some excellent examples of Word-driven disciple makers. We need to learn from them in order to build strong, biblical, courageous, gospel-centered, grace-filled, Spirit-driven disciples for Kingdom expansion.

The Apostle Paul leaves Athens feeling weary and disappointed in the response to the gospel. The work in Athens was tough.  But Corinth brings new opportunities and new prospects for gospel ministry.  And here, in Corinth, the Lord Jesus rejuvenates his servant in some wonderful ways.  Need a little renewal yourself?  Listen in!

Paul seized the opportunity to be a witness for Jesus in Athens as he addressed a culture saturated in idol worship with the life-giving message of the gospel.  We have been entrusted with the same message of hope and salvation and with the Holy Spirit's help, we must seek to take advantage of the opportunities we have to spread that message.  

When he healed a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, Jesus paused, looked into heaven, and sighed. From the depths of his being came a rush of emotion that said more than words ever could. He sighed. We explore that today in our communion meditation.

Every believer in Jesus Christ needs to learn how to live appropriately for the glory of God and their own good!  In the last installment of this series, Dr. Leno talks about managing your resources in a way that is both financially healthy and Kingdom expanding.
