The Flop House

Though we've done our best to not let it disrupt the show, Elliott's a busy bee these days and had to sit this one out, so Dan took the rare opportunity of being able to finish his sentences to get to know his old pal Stuart a little better... but with a film-related twist. We’re in season 2 of FlopTV! Tune in for individual episodes, or get a price break with a season pass!  Full line-up/tickets...

Welcome to a brand new, bite-sized game show from SmartLess Media: this is ClueLess, where every episode contains a different main game and cliffhanger puzzle, and every episode this season also contains Sean Hayes! Host Elliott Kalan (Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, The Flop House) will lead Sean and a rotating guest through each episode's conundrum, from anagrams t...

We took a short break around Thanksgiving, which means YOU finally get to hear one of our LIVE episodes from Oxford's inaugural Saint Audio Podcast Festival ! We were extremely excited to finally do a show in the UK and see some listeners from across the pond, and -- because we were in England -- we HAD to talk about 1998's The Avengers (aka "the non-Marvel-one), a legendary mega-flop and a despoi...

"But Trap wasn't a flop!" you scream to the heavens. "Neither financially, nor critically!" you wail, desperately. "It made 83 million on a 30 million budget! And it got a mixed, but not- awful 52 on Metacritic!" But the uncaring Gods of Flop offer no comfort. Because whatever your personal feelings, Trap has inspired STRONG OPINIONS, and besides, when you have a great guest like Linda Holmes , yo...

You KNEW this episode was coming, and we got to it as soon as we could! We discuss Francis Ford Coppola's defiantly personal, defiantly incomprehensible, personal-fortune-destroying Megalopolis ! And for such a mega flop olis episode we enlisted the help of Roman Mars, a man who knows a thing or two about architecture and design, and who's currently co-hosting a podcast series with Elliott about T...

Hallie may not have seen a ghost this Halloween season, but Elliott caps off Shocktober (a little late, in "no theme No-vember") by quizzing all of us about whether we've seen cinematic ghosts, in the course of our many Flop House viewings. We’re in season 2 of FlopTV! Tune in for individual episodes, or get a price break with a season pass!  Full line-up/tickets here ! And while you’re clicking o...

Bad news first: we discussed Dear David , a horror movie based on a Twitter thread posted by a guy who used to do comics for Buzzfeed, released by "Buzzfeed Studios" -- a sentence that gives us a headache just to type. The good news? We're joined by Star of the Show, Hallie Haglund , whose ever-delightful presence inspires us all into a lot of giggle fits and silly bits! We’re in season 2 of FlopT...

Since Stuart is infamous for missing mid-and-post-credit scenes, Dan quizzes him (and Elliott) about what might have possibly happened in various movies that included a li'l extra something at the end. What's that? The chilly nip of Shocktober on the wind? That's right, kiddies! It's your old pal the Flopkeeper, with another spookifying or snorifying yarn! It's called Night Swim , and it's about a HAUNTED POOL! Is there pee in the pool too? Probably! Terrifying! Grab your goggles and let's dive in! We're in season 2 of FlopTV! For our second Smalltember/Smallvember pick, we take on a film that Dan vetoed last year because he feared his fragile psyche could not take a repeat viewing, but -- like a bad giant golden robot -- it always turns up! Robot in the Family is its name, and it's a sustained 85 minute panic attack in the form of a low-budget 90's "family" comedy. FlopTV is going strong! You can pop in for individual...

You can pop in for individual episodes, or get a price break with a season pass —  more info (including the full line-up) and tickets available here ! And hey, while you’re clicking on stuff, why not subscribe to our  N...

It's that time of year again! Smalltember (or Smallvember, if you're nasty)! For our kickoff "smaller" bad movie pick, we took a recommendation from our podcast network colleague, the esteemed Mr. Justin McElroy, and watched Dangerous Game: The Legacy Murders , starring Flop House recurring offender, Jon Voight. It's a mashup of Clue and Saw that takes a turn you will not be expecting with those r...

From the visionary mind of John Krasinski, Stuart's number one favorite human, comes IF ! It's a whimsical tale about how imaginary friends are real and we should have them even as adults, and if we decide to forget them, they'll die or something! Did this sit well with us? Probably not! But it led to one of our best live shows ever, so we hope you enjoy our pain. Season 2 of FlopTV kicks off NEXT...

We celebrate 17 years of The Flop House by discussing Wish , the movie that was supposed to celebrate 100 years of Disney animation, but was mostly met with a resounding, "Meh." Did that ol' Disney magic work any better on us? Listen to find out! We just announced season 2 of our monthly live streaming video show FlopTV! And because this is FTV 2, this season is all about BAD SEQUELS! You can pop...

Apologies to the ecologically and morally-responsible vegans and vegetarians in our audience, but today's episode is an exploration of cinematic meats, as Elliott takes us through one of the least-essential top ten lists in movie criticism history! Our live show, Three Men and a Hallie , is still viewable for ticket-holders (or new purchasers) thru August 18! If you missed it, there's still time!...

Elliott long claimed we would NEVER do the Garbage Pail Kids Movie , due to its extreme unpleasantness, but it only took a live show and the participation of our most GPK-pushing pal, Mr. Griffin Newman, of the excellent Blank Check podcast to break his resolve. What other core principles can we make Elliott discard? Keep listening in the years to come, and we'll see! Also, for all those Hallie fa...

Sure, Roman and Elliott might have all the heat with their excellent 99% Invisible series on The Power Broker , but that doesn't mean that Dan can't try something incredibly stupid! No, not Spider-Man. He's a menace! A menace, I say! As three nerds who grew up with this stuff, you can imag...
