Society EN ↓ 100 episodes

I’m Rob. I often record episodes while I’m driving, hence, Driving With Rob. I try to encourage and give life lessons, but some episodes are just whatever comes to mind during a long commute. Episodes may have a conservative, Christian slant, but don’t let that scare you!

Episodes

Fathers Day 03.07.2020

Some things you may not know about your dad.  Things like, it really did hurt him more than it hurt you, and he was always proud of you, and loved you, whether he told you or not.

How To Stay Married 17.06.2020

Marriage is a commitment.  You must commit to the commitment.  You won't always be happy.  Your spouse will disappoint you, or make you angry, or hurt you, but if you're committed to the commitment, you stay together.  The disappointment, anger, or hurt will pass and when it does, you will still be together.

It's Just A Dog 14.06.2020

Most people feel that their dogs are part of the family and more than "just a dog".  In this episode I talk about how attached we became to our dog and how hard it was to have her put down.

Taking The Back Roads 14.06.2020

Your GPS gives you options like "fastest route" or "scenic route".  The fastest way is not always the best way.  Try the back roads now and then!

The Fastest Way To Myrtle Beach 01.06.2020

There is no fast way to Myrtle Beach from my house!  There are a few alternate routes, but until Star Fleet invents transporter technology, it's going to be a long trip.  You have to make the journey a normal part of the vacation.

Can Money Buy Happiness? 29.05.2020

Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy you a cup of coffee, and isn't that the same thing?  What it takes to make me happy today is radically different from what it took when I was in my twenties!

Shame As A Verb 22.05.2020

To shame someone is bullying and a way to hurt another person.  Christians used to be the masters at shaming others, using scripture to justify the shaming.  These days people use shaming to try to silence their political enemies, using words like racist, sexist, or phobic.

Sharing Your Dreams 13.05.2020

Sharing your dreams is a risky business.  It can be a good idea if you really want it to come true, or a really bad idea if you tell the wrong person!

Big Boys Don't Cry 11.05.2020

Is it okay for men to cry?  Little boys on the playground are told "big boys don't cry" when they scrape their knee.  Whether it's testosterone or learned behavior, men tend to cry much less often than women.  Maybe men should "let it out" more often.

Friends 07.05.2020

This is a short episode I named "Friends" I recently reconnected with friends I knew thirty plus years ago and it had me reminiscing and thinking about old friends.  I may do a longer episode on this same theme later.  Stay tuned!

Why I Can't Remember Stuff 06.05.2020

Age related memory loss.  I have a theory, based on no research, as to why we have trouble remembering stuff as we get older.  I believe it's a "no available memory space" problem.

DNA Tests 01.05.2020

Have you ever had a DNA test? Did you believe the results?  I found out that I had Cherokee ancestry, but the DNA test showed zero percent Native American.  My wife apparently is descended from Vikings and pirates.  THAT I can believe!

BC: Before Cell Phones 27.04.2020

Remember when smart phones replaced flip phones?  Remember when cell phones first came out?  Do remember when there were no cell phones?  Cell phones are a fairly recent invention and now you can't live without them.

Do You Want To Be Right or Do You Want To Be Happy? 24.04.2020

The best piece of relationship advice my dad ever gave me.  When you're in the midst of an argument, ask yourself, "Do I want to be right, or do I want to be happy"?  It takes two people to argue.  If one person stops, the argument stops.

What Does Home Mean To You? 20.04.2020

We're all under a "stay at home" order.  I began to think philosophically about "home" and what it means to me.  What do you think of when you say the word "home"?  Is it your state, your town, or maybe it's the place where you grew up?  In this episode I talk about what home means to me.

Compassion 16.04.2020

Compassion says, I not only feel your pain, but I will help you to get through it.  How is compassion different from empathy?  Nursing has to be the most perfect example of people who show compassion.

Do You Really NEED a Supervisor? 14.04.2020

If you're at least thirty years old, you should be responsible enough to work without adult supervision!  I also talk about the two best supervisors I've ever had, and what made them such good supervisors.

Easter and Passover 06.04.2020

Why Easter and Passover happen at the same time.  There are two reasons.  This episode is a brief explanation of Easter and Passover and why they coincide.

The Importance of Human Touch 03.04.2020

Human touch is vitally important to our health and well being.  In this episode I talk about social distancing, holding babies, and showing the love of Jesus through touch by missionaries at a leper colony.

No Fear 29.03.2020

The COVID-19 panic is the result of fear.  Fear is a negative emotion that is more contagious than the virus!  God's word to us is to fear not, be not afraid, and the same applies to the Coronovirus.  No matter what the situation, God says we can face it without fear because He is with us.

The Difference Between Sympathy and Empathy 25.03.2020

Empathy goes deeper than sympathy.  Empathy says I not only feel sorry for you, but I feel what you feel.  A subtle difference, yet it's not so subtle.  It moves us to help others and to want to be there for them.

True Love Never Dies 19.03.2020

I believe true love never dies.  If you ever loved someone, you still do, even if they are out of your life forever.  Love is our natural state of being.  That's why receiving love, or expressing it, makes us so happy.  The love you feel for another person never goes away.

The Ten Commandments 13.03.2020

This episode talks about the commandments, what Jesus said about them, and how they relate to the golden rule.  I begin by talking a little about the 1956 Cecil B. DeMille movie and how watching the movie encouraged me to read the book!

Grandpaw and Papaw 11.03.2020

Grandfathers have a special relationship with their grandchildren.  In this episode I talk about my two grandfathers and the relationships I had with each of them.

Always Tip Your Waitress 09.03.2020

You should always tip your servers.  Bad service may not be the server's fault.  Servers can be paid less than half of minimum wage and depend on tips to make a living.  You should always tip the wait staff.
