Our last show to wrap 2022 as the 'voice of cycling' Phil Liggett returns to Australia for the 2023 Citroen Bay Crits kicking off on Jan 1-3.

We catch up with our regular Detour guest Phil Liggett to reflect on a massive 2022, recapping some of our favourite moments of the season.

It was a dominant display from Remco Evenepoel as he claimed his first elite mens road title in a dominant display in Wollongong. There was also drama with Mathieu van der Poel after his arrest for two counts of assault and abandoning the race early in the day.

She was the race favourite, but a crash in the mixed TTT placed doubt on Annemiek van Vleuten chances of winning the world in Wollongong.  She then goes and proves why she's one of the greatest cyclist of all time with a historic victory in wet conditions.

A day of drama for the Dutch at #Wollongong2022 as Annemiek van Vleuten crashed not long after the start and a mechanical for Mollema. We recap all the results from the day and Australian Hamish McKenzie joins us live after his silver medal in the junior TT.

It was another big day of racing in #Wollongong2022 with the mens and women's junior time trials.  We catch up with Matt Wilson to unpack all the results.

We're joined live by silver medalist in the ITT Grace Brown to recap her sensational ride in the Individual Time Trial.  We also recap the results from the Mens under 23 Individual Time Trial.

It was an exciting opening day of racing at #Wollongong2022 World Championships.  Tobias Foss surprised the world of cycling taking out the Elite Mens Time Trial, with Ellen van Dijk claiming the Elite Women's title.  We catch up with Australian Luke Plapp live who finished in 12th position.

It's been a big month in Spain with Iffy on the ground getting pre and post race interviews.  We chat with all the big names on stage 21 of the Vuelta and recap whats been an amazing race and history for Belgium with the overall victory to Remco Evenepoel.

Remco Evenepoel seals the deal and is set to be the first Belgian to win a grand tour in nearly half a century.  Carapaz claims the stage honours as Iffy catches up with all the big names pre and post race.

Mads Pederson makes it three beating Fred Wright to the line but Primoz gives Fred a whack blaming him for his exit. Grace Brown takes the chocolates in stage 3 of Ceratizit Challenge by LaVuelta.

The  rollercoaster Vuelta continues as Jay Vine had a chance to seal the King of the Mountains jersey at the Vuelta on stage 18, but a crash early in the stage forced him out of the race.  Carlos Rodriguez was hurt but will continue.  Remco stamps his authority on the GC claiming his second stage in the process.

Primoz Roglic shocked the Vuelta with his withdrawal prior to stage 17 eliminating a ding dong battle on GC with Remco Evenepoel. Rigoberto Uran produces a ride from the past to outride the breakaway as Lawson Craddock was valiant in defeat.

Roglic bites the dust in final 100 metres and Evenepoel punctures just inside the 3km. Conspiracy theories doubt Remco's flat.  Aussie hopes are deflated when Kaden Groves and Rob Stannard flat in finale.

Queen Stage to Sierra Nevada produces high drama. Jumbo attacks again, but Evenepoel limits the damage, Jay Vine, Ben O'Connor & Jai Hindley all go top 10 into the rarefied air at 2,500 metres.

Primoz Roglic has given cycling fans more reason to tune into the second half of the Vuelta as he narrows the gap on the GC after taking 48 seconds on Remco. It was always going to be a question about his ability to race the full three weeks and the signs are there that it will be a mega showdown leading into another tough stage to Sierra Nevada. Mads Pedersen crushes them all to win in Montilla but announces he will not be racing in Wollongong. BikeExchange Jayco again ride good tactical finale but it proved just too tough for Groves.

It was an eventful stage 12 as Remco Evenepoel survives a crash scare during the stage.  Richard Carapaz takes advantage of his breakaway opportunity and takes the stage, his first grand tour win in three years.

From despair to delight!!! Simon Yates is out with Covid but BikeExchange Jayco dug deep to put Kaden Groves in front and he delivers big time, winning stage 11.  Julian Alaphilippe also crashes out on the stage and we talk about the impact of Covid on the relegation zone battle in 2022. 

Remco Evenepoel doubles down on his dominance at the Vuelta with a commanding victory in the TT and extends his overall lead on the GC going into the second half of the Vuelta.  We also discuss the COVID situation as 15 riders had to abandon after testing positive including sprint champion Sam Bennett.

We chat to the stars and look at one of the tougher finales in world cycling where the Aussies suffer.  Sam Bewley also joins the show live to recap the first nine stages and predicts the GC standings after the stage 10 TT.
