Chris Smith, whose  94-year-old mother-in-law lives in a Silver Leaf home in Dallas, received this voicemail on March 27, from a Texas Health and Human Services worker. Smith's mother-in-law uses a wheelchair and has dementia, Smith said, and he worries about moving her from the home she lives in.

An employee at Texas Health and Human Services left this voicemail for Dallas resident Betty Murray on March 27, 2025. The state has abruptly closed the Silver Leaf assisted living facility where Murray's 90-year-old mother lives. State workers initially told Murray that she needed to relocate her mother, who needs round-the-clock care, within 72 hours.
