As life and careers have their phases, living a life of disciplemaking as has its phases.  Today, I will compare life, career, and ministry with the model provided by Jesus.

Each of the four Gospels plus Acts provide a bit of a different perspective into the Life and Ministry of Jesus. From those perspectives, we build our lives and ministries around the life and ministry of Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Does the Bible have a primary focus? If so, what is it? Discover!

What should we do when in trouble or sick?  How much faith do we mix with our prayers?  Are we truly trusting God? Oh, and what about community and accountability? How do they factor into our prayers and their answers?

Today, we cover just one verse, James 5:13.  I had thought we would get further, but as it is, this foundational theme brings cause for self-evaluation and reflection. How is your prayer and worship life?

James describes how the Christian should await the Lord's return.  In his day, persecution was rife, so his words about waiting are given in the face of suffering.  How should we suffer as we wait?

James, Paul, Jesus, and the writers of the Proverbs all provide warnings about how we procure and handle wealth, ultimately challenging where our treasure is.  What is your relationship with money?  Is your treasure the things of God?

There is God's way, then there is man's way.  Which way will you choose?

It isn't that we at war against the world as much as we are at war against the world at work within ourselves.  The flesh and spirit are contrary. God's ways and the world's ways are not the same, and this can create great tension within us. 

In this section, James compares and contrasts the outworkings of the wisdom of the world and wisdom that comes from God.  Which kind of wisdom is being exhibited in your life?

Words heal and words destroy. Any of us can be caught bringing hope in one instance and utter destruction the next. We need God's helping in taming the tongue.

We can say we have faith or we can show that we have faith.  James makes the argument that our faith is validated and shown true through our actions.

The Christian faith demands that we treat people differently than the world does, but, in fact, treating people the same.  A legitimate faith will keep up from favoritism.

What does religion that God our Father accepts look like?  James tells us.

Trials can be a gift and sin is an absolute snare.  Endure trials and resist sin.

God provides wisdom, but we need the faith to trust Him to provide it.  God, increase our all too often feeble faith as we seek your wisdom.

James, Paul, and Peter all provide instructions for how to face trials, and they each knew serious trials.  God uses trials to form us.  Will we allow the various trials through which we go to form us more fully into Christlikeness?
