Sometimes we can’t see the love of God at all, and even in moments when we do, we only see it in part. Sometimes it’s difficult to see the good and better life that Jesus offers because the culture around us promotes its version of how life should be lived. When we pray the Lord’s Prayer regularly, our imagination is captured by the values of the kingdom so we can live freely into our covenant relationship with Jesus. Jesus’ sacrificial love on the cross reveals God’s hidden wisdom: that love has the power to defeat evil and death. We like to put our trust in power and wealth and the people we think can obtain and keep it for us. But when we refuse to be captive to this world’s systems and trust God alone as the source of our identity and security, we are once again free to display the redeeming beauty of his endless kingdom of love. It’s tempting for us to believe that God is stingy with his love and that only select people like us are chosen by him to be blessed. But God has always extended his blessing to his people with the invitation to help him bless all people until the whole world experiences his love. From the beginning our biggest human struggle has been the desire to call all the shots in our own lives which inevitably leads to judging everyone else for how they call the shots in their lives. When we trust God for his provision and honor his prohibition it frees us to live in his love.

Forces in our world want us to see each other as less than human, always competing with each other for what’s ours by preventing us from realizing that we are all on the same side. But God imprinted all of humanity with his image, binding us together as his children with the sacred task of caring for and watching over his lovingly handcrafted creation. But when we listen to others with compassionate curiosity, we can help tear down the walls that divide us and build bridges to unite us instead. We are at greater and greater risk of being controlled by our engagement with digital technology yet unaware of it at the same time. God invites us to give our attention to the ways of his kingdom so we can be formed to live the lives we really want.
