The Barnsley Carol (Christmas Eve) by Arthur Godfrey
A Christmas carol lost for 90 years was re-discovered by Barnsley Museums in 2023 while researching the history of Barnsley town hall. Since it was picked up by the BBC and performed live by the Barnsley Youth Choir on the Broadcasting House show on BBC Radio4 a new Christmas tradition was born and the song is now being sung by choirs and musicians all across the country. The version of The Barnsley Carol we recorded in 2023 in the town hall. Discovered while researching the history of Barnsley town hall which also opened in December 1933. The Barnsley Chronicle at the time published the full lyrics, we created a video for the song with images from Barnsley Archives.
