The Avid Indoorsmen

For the first episode of 2021 we wanted to talk about the 2017 film Wonder Woman, in preparation for the sequel that just came out to HBO Max, Wonder Woman 1984! It’s a new year so we had to bring on a new guest to the pod, our good friend Olena Lysenko! She is joined by one of her best friends and one of our favorite recurring guests, Sami Matarante! These two had some really fun insights on the...

Hooray! We are almost done with 2020! We thought we’d end the year with one of our favorite Rom-Coms of all time and a film that always reminds us of New Year’s Eve, When Harry Met Sally. Rob’s much better half, Kelsey, came back to the pod to give her thoughts on this film and she is always a delight. We end with the Blockbuster movie game we haven’t played in a long time... Way back in March we...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Hoping you’re all feeling the holiday spirit because we are here to talk about The Santa Clause! We put up several polls on what Christmas movie we should chat about for our Christmas Eve episode and The Santa Clause sleighed the competition... We decided to keep it nice and cozy and just have the two of us discuss Tim Allen’s portrayal of Santa Claus. It...

The Coen Brothers film that gave us the Soggy Bottom Boys, O Brother, Where Art Thou, is having it’s 20th Anniversary. There are many reasons we wanted to talk about this southern take on Homer’s Odyssey, but the biggest reason is because Rob’s bandmate, Austin Brown, is great friends with Quinn Gasaway who played Boy Hogwallop in the film! We were able to get Quinn to tell us some really fun stor...

We’ve reached the third and final of the Christopher Nolan Batman films, The Dark Knight Rises. On our Movie Game Night with The Filharmonic we found out Niko Del Rey and Jules Cruz were into this film, so we invited them back on for a real episode! They are very entertaining guys and we had a blast chatting with them about the observations they made about The Dark Knight Rises. We even got them t...

We are so serious, we love the second film in the Christopher Nolan Batman Trilogy, The Dark Knight. Why so serious? Because it’s amazing!!! Jenika Marion and Reilly Zamber are huge Christopher Nolan/Dark Knight fans and BEGGED to be on this episode, so we obliged and were so happy to have them back on. They bring some great takes, like they always do. This episode ends with us playing a newer gam...

It’s the 15th anniversary of Christopher Nolan’s take on the caped crusader, Batman Begins. A gritty, dark version of Batman that we hadn’t seen before comes to life in the first of the Nolan Batman trilogy. We had to bring back a recurring guest to the show who loves all things Nolan and Bale, Straight No Chaser’s Seggie Isho! He’s so funny and has a new Christmas album and some live shows they’r...

Home Free had gotten together to film their Warmest Winter Holiday Special and Buegs made the trek to Nashville to hang out (and maybe be a part of the special????). Rob had driven by himself from Minnesota to Tennessee and Buegs accompanied him on the way back to the Twin Cities. We had 13 hours in the car and for a little over an hour of that we played a Movie Game and recorded it for your liste...

The movie that brought us “It’s Not A Tumor” “I’m a cop you idiot” and so many more classic Arnold one-liners is having it’s 30th Anniversary! Kindergarten Cop was a huge part of our childhoods and we had to do an episode on it. We brought in one of our buddies from college who has the best Arnold Schwarzenegger impression we have ever heard, Evan Kelly. Even if you don’t want to hear an entire ep...

By the time we’re releasing this we may know who won the American Presidential election, so we thought Aaron Sorkin’s The American President was a perfect choice for this week’s episode. It also happens to be having a 25th anniversary which seemed even more of a reason to deep dive into this film. Timmy St. Sauver is a lifelong friend of Rob’s and has been on the pod numerous times. We know he’s a...

Happy early Halloween everyone! We thought since this has been the most terrifying year of existence that we would talk about a funnier Halloween film, Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s Cabin in the Woods! Reilly Zamber, who you know as half of the music duo The Hound + The Fox, is a lover of Halloween and all the spookiness it brings, so we had to have him come back on the pod and give his most terr...

Since the MLB World Series is upon us, we thought we would talk about one of our favorite baseball films of all time, Major League. This film gave us Wild Thing Ricky Vaughn, Willie Mays Hays and Bob Uecker’s hilarious one liners. We had to get someone who appreciated these things as much as us and thankfully Seggie Isho from Straight No Chaser is also a big fan. We always have a great time talkin...

If you know Buegs or Rob well, you’ve heard them quote Wedding Crashers many times. If you’ve given Rob a hug he may have said “Let’s bring it in for the real thing.” If you’ve been around Buegs and someone has left the room you may have heard him say “I never know what she’s doing in there.” Those are just a few of the many gems that this film delivers. A couple other people who find this movie d...

We have been having so much fun doing our Movie Game Nights and we thought it was about time to bring on the crazy talented a cappella group, The Filharmonic! Rob was on The Sing Off with these guys back in the day and they are such good dudes. We had a blast playing a few of our favorite games with them. Check it out! 1:06 - @TheFilharmonic 4:58 - The Starting 5 (Films Featuring A Wedding) 23:03...

Hey dudes! We went back in time to talk about the cult classic that has produced two sequels, 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. We figured that since the third of the trilogy, Face The Music, came out recently that we would pay homage to the original. There was absolutely no question who we were going to ask to be a guest on this episode, the Wyld Stallyn himself, Nathan Stone. Nate quotes...

Disney has created another live-action remake of one of their beloved musicals, and decided to switch things up and re-imagine the story of Mulan. It’s being streamed now on Disney +. We knew that @JenikaMarion was a big fan of the animated musical version so we knew we had to get her on the pod to talk about this with us, and we decided since we missed her husband that @TimFoustMusic could tag al...

No, you’re not dreaming, we’ve done an episode on Inception which is celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary! We went and got the dreamboat from The Blenders and Home Free’s Producer, Darren Rust to make his AI debut. We’ve been wanting to get him on the podcast and this just happens to be one of his favorite films, so it worked out! Our dream within a dream was a fun movie game Buegs made up called The...

The Blues Brothers just had it’s 40th Anniversary!!! We had to get the band back together to celebrate it, so we got a couple of returning guests and longtime friends for both of us, Benny Elledge and Dan Ristrom! We don’t know anyone else who loves this movie more than these two and they had us laughing throughout the entire episode with their hilarious takes and the various titles of fictional s...

It’s been a while since we’ve done a Movie Game Night so we got one of our favorite A Cappella groups to come on and play some games with us: VOICEPLAY! We chatted about life with no shows, how they’re still rocking the YouTube game and most importantly, played some super entertaining games. The Voiceplay guys are such a good time and don’t forget to check out Rob’s collaboration with them on thei...

You didn’t think we’d do a Clueless 25th Anniversary episode? AS IF! We had to talk about this iconic 90’s take on the classic Jane Austen story, Emma. We got Rob’s best friend from Kindergarten to come back on to the pod, Tim St. Sauver. He had some super funny takes on Cher and Dionne and the rest of the Clueless gang. This episode ended with an Imitation Game and our Patrons get to listen to us...

“He’s a Cinderella story. A former assistant groundskeeper about to become the Masters champion...” This quote and every other quote from Caddyshack have been told and retold by all of our Dads for 40 years now! So we got that going for us, which is nice. We had to find a couple guys who love this movie as much as we do and didn’t have to look very far. Turns out the two guys who helped us get thi...

We were so excited to talk about the new film released on HULU featuring Andy Samberg and Cristin Miliotti, Palm Springs. Both Nate Stone and Seggie Isho saw Palm Springs before The Avid Indoorsmen and raved about it so much that it inspired us to watch it and decide to do an episode on it. Since they inspired us to check this out initially, we thought it was only right to have them on and give us...

Having it’s 35th Anniversary is the Steven Spielberg film based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Color Purple. As you will find out by listening to this episode, both of the Avid Indoorsmen had never seen this 11 time Academy Award nominated film, but it happened to be one of our guest’s favorite movies ever, the one and only Emoni Wilkins! We were looking for an excuse to bring...

Quack...Quack...Quack...Quack..Quack..Quack. Quack. QuackQuackQuack! That’s right, this episode will focus on the Minnesota hockey classic, The Mighty Ducks. We had to get the full flock together to create that triple deke, so we got our buddy and Hollywood actor, J. Michael Trautmann! He has a close connection to this film and we had a blast hanging out with him, hearing his hilarious takes. This...

We heard that Disney + was releasing a filmed version of the live theatrical production of Hamilton and we were not throwing away our shot…we had to do it. Jenika Marion and Neil Ghosh were on the Zoom where it happened, and it was super fun geeking out to this musical theater phenomenon with them. Neil made his AI debut and he fit right in, Jenika has been on so many times and is a fan favorite a...
