Continuing in our summer slowdown series, this Sunday we are turning our attention to the words of Jesus regarding our inner lives. We exist in a world that gives us much to worry about. In the midst of that, Jesus invites us to stop, look at the birds and flowers, and consider how the Father provides for them and even more so for us.

This Sunday we are kicking off our summer slowdown series. We’ll begin with the theme of “slowing our outer life.” In this familiar text, we see Jesus interact with Martha and Mary, sisters who are closely connected to the ministry of Jesus. In this passage, Paul brings the first part of his argument to a close, revealing that his heart for this church is that of a father. As a father to this church, Paul’s care for them can be both gentle and firm, but it’s always for the purpose of calling them to Jesus. The invitation for us too, is to hear the gentle and firm call to Jesus in our lives every single day.

In our text this Sunday, we see Paul begin to press hard into the Corinthian church and their misguided judgments of who Paul and his team are and what they are responsible for doing. Paul sets aside his metaphorical language and begins to directly confront the Corinthians, getting clear on what his mission and purpose is.

"Don't be deceived." There are few admonitions more pertinent to our current cultural moment than this one. In this sermon, Mike walks us through Paul's command to the Corinthians to not be deceived but to instead choose the "foolish" path of the way of Jesus. 

One of the things that Paul says upsets God more than anything is when people within the church tear down others in the church with their envious hearts and strife-filled words. This Sunday, we’ll be looking at what it means to collectively be the temple of God–a people building one another up along the long journey of following Jesus.

Continuing to work through Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, this Sunday we are beginning to delve into some of Paul’s expectations for leaders in the church. A primary question we’ll be looking at is how are we continuing to build on the foundation of the gospel?

In a world full of information, only the Spirit can open our eyes to God’s hidden wisdom in the crucified Christ and reshape how we live.

Paul said he decided to know nothing but Jesus Christ and him crucified? What did he mean by this and how does it apply to our modern understanding of preaching and the activity of a local church?

In this sermon we will see how Jesus did not come to satisfy our political preferences or temporal desires; He came on His own terms as the Unexpected King, the Unexpected Lamb, and the Unexpected Savior.

What do we see when we look at the church? Do we see a people with a bunch of problems or do we see a people who God has graciously gifted and is working in? In spite of their messiness, Paul begins his letter to the Corinthians by expressing sincere gratitude for the ways in which he sees God working in their lives.

With this sermon, we are wrapping up our pillars and values series, looking at our final two values: Community and Curiosity.
