Episodes

Episode 11 - Bernese Mountain Dogs 03.12.2024

Eleanor comes in with some heat on this episode as she clarifies all dogs are magical even if they are needy, sheddy, or drooly; they are loyal and loving beyond humans.

Episode 10 - Border Collie 04.10.2023

In this Episode, Ben and Eleanor discuss what Ben thinks of as the quintessential looking dog: the Border Collie. A dog that has found it's way into the record books for intelligence and largest gathering of a single breed. Will Ben convince Eleanor that this dog is the best dog or will he continue to soften towards all dogs are magical?

Episode 9 - Xoloitzcuintli 10.05.2022

Ben prepares a mystery dog that he feels is undesirable... but he may be softening a bit.

Episode 8 - Basset Hounds 22.01.2022

This episode is a fun back and forth between Eleanor and Ben with these low hanging eared, deep barking, stereotypically sad pups, the basset hound. We get into the surprising pop-culture presence and their unique bone structure before coming to the rather long poetry reading of Michael O'Loughlin's "Elegy for a Basset Hound."

Episode 7 - Golden Retrievers 20.08.2021

Truly a magnificent dog, the golden retriever! On this episode, Eleanor doesn't have to work too hard to convince Ben that the golden retriever is a glorious dog, but she does reveal other reasons for doing the podcast. This episode has a couple of dad jokes and if you listen closely you will hear some background noise from the producer.

Episode 6 - Pugs 23.05.2021

On this episode, Eleanor tries to convince Ben that the health deficient, bulgy-eyed pug is as magical as all other dogs. The history of the pug is a long and royal one but these lapdogs of the emperor are now snorting, overheating messes; or maybe they just have more to offer than their outward appearance.

Episode 5 - Boxers 27.11.2020

In this episode, we talk about the playful fun loving boxer. This is Ben's favorite breed even though he's never owned one, and his love of boxers is based on a single image. Eleanor holds that all dogs are magical while Ben claims boxers are better than chihuahuas.

Episode 4 - Poodles 31.07.2020

On this episode, Ben came in with research that softened him to these smart and loving dogs. As Eleanor says, "It's working!" They explore the history in artwork, the athletic yet not so athletic qualities, and their visible and often pretentious looking 'cut.' This is a fun look at a somewhat misunderstood dog (at least from those that don't already own a poodle).

Episode 3 - Bulldogs 17.06.2020

Eleanor doesn't have much work to do on this one because Ben is already a fan of this stout puppy. From the face to the iconic symbol of the English stand against Nazi Germany, this dog is a sweet and protective addition to any home. But that drool!

Episode 2 - Chihuahuas 24.05.2020

In this episode, Eleanor takes on the task of convincing Ben that chihuahua's are magical. It is a daunting task but she lays out a good argument for them being more cost effective and not so drooly. These dogs have a rich history of companionship.

Episode 1 - Newfoundlands 16.05.2020

In episode one of Talking Puppies, Eleanor convinces Ben that the drool of a Newfoundland is something to appreciate. They talk basic breed stats of this gentle giant and water loving rescue pup. In the end, the ranking of 35th most popular dog breed in the U.S. doesn't seem fitting.
