Talkin’ Birdy: An Orioles Podcast

Brad and Josh discuss some quick thoughts on the young season. While the pitching staff has had some bright spots, this lineup has seemed devoid of life. But there has been more than enough to discuss on the Minor League side of things. Between the bright talent at Norfolk and the rising stars in Aberdeen, sad fans of the major league club have had these other outlets to fill their baseball needs.

It’s been a long offseason, but Opening Day is finally here! We’ve packed a lot of topics into today’s episode, everything from the recent Scott/Sulser trade, into our first Fantasy Draft since September, and our predictions for team awards. The Orioles roster has begun to finalize itself, with more cuts happening everyday. A few fan favorites were optioned to Norfolk, yet we’re optimistic especially in regards to the pitching staff.

MLB Pipeline dropped their updated rankings for the Orioles top 30 prospects so we obviously gotta dig into that. We also make observations on what we’ve seen out of Spring Training, as well as discuss Heston Kjerstad’s injury that has him sidelined for 8-12 weeks.

We discuss the fresh Correa rumors + Adley extension rumors, as well as some fan submitted questions for the O’s as Spring Training games begin this week.

No special guests this week, unless you include tipsy Brad. We're talking lockout resolutions, as well as recent Orioles moves. We also spent a great deal of time on the unlikely hypothetical that Carlos Correa could be an Oriole.

This week we are joined by Norfolk Tides 3rd basemen and breakout prospect Patrick Dorrian! He was traded to the Orioles and spent most of 2021 in Bowie, posting impressive numbers. He will make a run for the Major League 3B position in 2022.

2020 Orioles Draft Selection and Shorebirds Infielder Anthony Servideo joins the show to talk about everything from his time at Ole Miss to his long road to prepare for 2022 after coming off a season ending surgery in 2021.

Zach Peek joins us for this week’s episode. Zach pitched the 2021 season in Delmarva and Aberdeen, impressing at both levels and pitching to a 3.80 ERA. Acquired in the Dylan Bundy trade, Peek boosted his stock tremendously in 2021 as he now prepares for his second pro season.

Orioles prospect Drew Rom joins us for this week’s episode! His name has shot up prospect charts over the past year, and for good reason. In his age 21 season, he ended the year with Double-A Bowie and strung together three scoreless starts over 14.0 IP to carry momentum into his fourth professional season.

After two slow months of the lockout, neither side has anything to show for it. The start of the MLB Season is now in jeopardy.

MLB has made a proposal to the players, the Orioles had their most impressive int'l signing period yet, and a few other tidbits.

The news cycle couldn’t be slower, so we each made a lineup of our favorite Orioles from 2000 to 2021. We also covered the history of CGI, Jaws, and Caleb Joseph. Baseball pls comeback.

The owners locked the players out and now the future of baseball is in the hands of two sides that are too stubborn to agree. Also the O’s did a few things, some good and some bad so let’s talk about it.

Rob Long joins the pod! Known for his TV work with MASN and with 105.7 The Fan on radio, Rob sat down with us to talk about Orioles baseball, movie reviews, life lessons, and plenty more.

We actually had plenty to talk about just a week after our last episode! Cedric Mullins wins the Silver Slugger, ROY finalist Wander Franco has us trashing new age baseball thinking, and an analysis on the 40-man roster massacre executed by Mike Elias this past week.

We end the show by recapping the seasons of the minor league teams who's seasons are over and project where a few blue chip prospects will start in 2022.

Not a whole lot going on this week but the boys convened to talk Austin Hays, the Robbie Ray/Brandon Hyde incident, and Ryan Mountcastle conveniently hitting his 29th HR of the year shortly before recording. Ryan won fantasy again and all is once again right with the world.

The boys are BACK! For the first time in forever all 3 hosts are present. We cover a rare Ryan loss in fantasy and reminisce on Mike Baumann's encouraging big league debut and the improbable 9 run 8th inning from the night before.

In what was supposed to be a generally short episode minus Brad, Josh is back and he and Ryan fly off on many tangents while discussing the general state of the Orioles. We get into a controversial rumor that came to light today about the upcoming CBA negotiations, and reminisce on the first meetup of the boys at Camden Yards last saturday.
