What stood out to me in this section was the fact that blackmen were more susceptive to calling a white man bro if he fit the look or tone. Also the blackman had no problem changing his tone to be more European on the phone an in presence of white people.

The author is getting deep into this appearance issue of the black man and why he feels the need to standout in the whatever is in way. I like how she points out that there are some things that he will not do to lose cool points. He must wear his hair, his clothes and shoes a certain way at all times.

This chapter is called Appearance and to me is connected to the identity chapter. She talks about the way the black man feels about being the best looking as far as shoes, clothes etc. in this section.

page 42-46 The author gets deeper into the identity problem of the blackman. She discusses the problem with Alex Haley retaining his slave name after knowing for an actual fact that his real name was Kintae. She also talks about Masons, Shriners and Fraternities giving the blackman his identity. The author did a fabulous job in ending the chapter of identity with the fact that no matter what we do...

page 38-41 She goes deeper into the Blackman being ripped of his identity during the process of being enslaved here in America. His extreme conditions on the slave ship as well as being brutalized and watching his woman brutalized devastated him. His name was taken from him as well as his language and his God.

page 35-38 She talks about the blackman choosing drugs that would tear him down and how he would go to prison more than anyone else.

page 32-35 The author goes into more things the blackman would insert himself in trying to figure out who he was. Some include religious organizations.

Pages 28-32 What stood out to me was the part about the Vietnam war and how blackmen felt like they were finally citizens after fighting in a war that made no sense.

pages 25-28 Needing to understand what happened to the blackman in slavery that caused them to get stuck in the same place generation after generation. We don't have to go back to square one if we learn who we are and why we have been kept down.

pagers 20-24 Chapter 2 is called identity. Who are you? She talks about being called Nigger, to Negroes to Blacks to African Americans. What does knowing your identity have to do with the condition of the blackman today?

Today I read pages 8-10 of the book by Shahrazad Ali. She talks more about the absent of the father in the black man's life and how he looked at his mother as someone who did everything for him. 

Reading a book by Shahrazad Ali. This is pages 5-7 and brief discussion. She talks about the programming of the black man and how he was shown the white woman and white man on tv as what he should be like or think is beautiful. She also talks about the role he was forced to play in  society. She introduces us to the reason why the black man is damaged and how he is in a crisis.
