Sunday Morning Coming Down

John adjusts to lake life, picks the wrong car to pick up an investor, mourns the death of Morgan Wallen’s mullet, and urges our youth to embrace a sense of urgency and quit standing outside the fire.

John takes the long way home from Fort Lauderdale, finds some wisdom at the health club, and wonders aloud why he doesn’t know how to do most of the things men know how to do. 

Between his company expanding to Arizona and driving his son to his first job in Florida, John had about 48 hours of windshield time this week. Along the way he heard the amazing journey of Chase and Marisa, and (surprise surprise) had too much fun in Nashville. 

John had a busy week at a Twins game, the Barbie movie, and Marketfest. He wonders aloud how he can be a better lake guy, if television is too powerful a force today, and how he can spend less time talking to people he doesn’t want to talk to. 

John is recovered from the wedding and tells us about an all-time glue-guy he learned about at a charity event, leading to a question about what it means to do a good friend. He also almost loses his favorite bar, gets rain in his jeep, and finds wisdom on Zach Bryan’s Instagram.  

John heads out of town to visit his daughter and attend an out-of-town wedding. Somewhere along the way he almost becomes part of the wedding party, almost. 

John puts a bow on the weird “4th of July on a Tuesday” week that was. He wonders if the country should be spending more time trying to reboot glam rock, and why some of us still insist on telling Uber drivers where to go.  

John is staying in the casita down in Georgia. On his trip, the South provides a great reminder to slow down, welcome everyone in, and take time to be iconic to the people you love the most. 

John is trying to channel positive Polly, focusing on his front porch, baseball, and Tally’s Dockside. He asks a tough question about a favorite drink of most Midwesterners and puts the Wordle Father’s Day fiasco to bed.  

Like the rest of the world, John wonders if Wordle will redeem itself this weekend after choosing LOSER as the Father’s Day word last year. He also had a big week reaching double digits in beer league, attending a concert, and going to a party. 

John has technology issues and ends up recording a grumpy episode from his front porch. He does find hope in the Pit Viper clad kids who fish on the marina, and a man helping others live off the land.  

John believes the check engine light may be on for America. He almost gets political sharing lessons learned from Starbuck. Other topics include mosquitos and the numerous benefits of the name Cletus.  

John is up in Starbuck for Elvis Presley weekend. He has a church sermon recommended to him, catches some fish, and wonders what it would be like to work in a costume shop.   

John finds wisdom in a commencement speech and from Ryan O’Reilly’s family on an ESPN documentary. Karma messes up Tuesday Night hockey, golf mixes well with gummies, and he even finishes with a DrunKKKKKKKKKK story for old times sake.  

Life is like lava monster; the question is where are you going to jump next? John talks about Mother’s Day, growing grass, wearing a robe, and the importance of not rushing through the rainbow. 

Happiness is fleeting, and it’s not a destination. John gives advice on how to dictate terms in the midlife of your career, appreciates the Twins Joe Ryan, and shares what it’s like to be a “big guy.”  

John shares a spirited debate from the cigar room, some tips about creativity, and wanders through the different male and female perspectives on life and yard work.  

Earned not given is a mantra for John right now as he pushes through 8 consecutive months of lousy weather in his beloved Minnesota. He breaks down birth order to see if the middle children have it best. 

John finds a surprising innovation space . . .in the men’s bathroom. He returns to a fan favorite naming your drinking alter-ego, while wondering why he can’t stop smoking all of his cigars. 

John is in vacation-mode golfing, cheering for his Gophers to win their first National title in twenty years, and wondering why hint of lime chips don’t come in a small bag. 

Minnesota is officially on the podium with its third snowiest winter. John searches for meaning on the way to Sioux Falls and warns us about the undeniable appeal of Court TV. 

John encourages us to push for insight beyond observation, and to try and find the why. What this has to do with steak salad and old Jeep Wranglers, you’ll have to listen to find out! 

John gets to see his town’s high school basketball team make it to state for the first time in 23 years. It makes him wonder if Minnesota would be a different place with more winning. 

John has a coming-of-age moment in a swimming pool, takes us behind the scenes finishing his annual installment of the all hockey hair team, and reaffirms that WE is the only thing that feels good. 

John completes a rare anxiety hat trick involving church, Tuesday Night Hockey, and a lengthy visit to his new cigar room.
