Cal Poly’s dance program, Orchesis Dance Company, had their winter performance of a routine called “Falling Forward” on January 20-21 and 26-28. “We had auditions the very first week of school,” said psychology third-year Grace Schweitzer. “We had Tuesday night info meeting of the first week, Thursday night of the first week was auditions and starting that Monday, we started rehearsing.”

The World Surf League’s SLO CAL open returned to Pismo beach in January for a week-long competition open to the public. This was the first edition of this year’s SLO CAL open, with the second competition returning to Morro Bay from Feb. 23-26. Surfers from all around the world came to compete in the men and women’s junior and qualifying series categories.

Cal Poly’s Latinx/Latine Center for Academic Success and Achievement, or LA CASA, is now open and operating. Located in Room E-22 of Building 51, LA CASA joins six other centers for Student Diversity and Belonging on campus, a new collective formerly known as the Cross Cultural Centers.

On Nov. 19, the 4th annual Bash Cancer Fest will be hosted at the Red Barn in Los Osos to raise money for kids battling cancer. This event is a family-friendly function and will include a silent auction, wine, food, bouncy houses and live band performances from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. All of the proceeds will go to a local nonprofit called the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation.
