As we continue in our summer series in the Gospel of Luke, today we examine what it means to be rich, as Jesus gives us the parable of a man rich in things and yet poor in God. This parable reminds us that the gifts of God, both earthly and heavenly, are the Father’s good pleasure to give to us.

Pastor Lawton Thompson continues the study of Luke, beginning at Luke 10:21. Hear Jesus' response to the return of the 72, and then hear the well-known parable of the Good Samaritan, including how some things we learn about it may or may not be accurate.

With Luke 9:51 we hear Jesus “set His face to go to Jerusalem.”  In the verses that follow Jesus tells us and shows us just what that means.  Nothing will deter Him, tempt Him, no opposition will keep Him from His Father’s plan to save us all at the cross.  His followers are called to be just as dedicated to the task of proclaiming the Kingdom of God is near.

Rev. Lawton Thompson leads the study of Luke 9:28-50. In the wake of Peter’s confession of Jesus more is revealed to the disciples, but seemingly less is understood. This study journeys from the Transfiguration to the point at which Jesus turns His face towards Jerusalem.

Rev. Paul Sieveking leads the study of Luke 9 emphasizing the question: "Who is Jesus?”  Peter confessed the faith. Then Jesus began to explain what it means to confess.  A contrast between the theology of the cross vs. the theology of glory is also featured.

Our study in the Gospel of Luke looks at the end of Luke 8, the account of Jesus healing a woman with a tremendous affliction and Jairus’ Daughter.

In this study of Luke 8:4-18, Dr. David Schmitt explores the Parable of the Sower, the explanation of this parable, and the opportunity Christians have to let their light shine in witness to Jesus.

Pastor Tanner Wade begins our summer Bible study looking at the Gospel of Luke, picking up where we left off last summer in Luke 7.  We see Jesus explain the reality of forgiveness to Simon the Pharisee, forgiving the sins of a “woman of the city”, and look at the well-known Parable of the Sower.

This week we take a look at I Kings 17-19.  Here God shows us how He used the firebrand prophet Elijah to bring His Word to the evil nation of Israel as they slipped into the worship of false gods. The words of Elijah ring true as a call for repentance and faith even in our day.

As our study of Ephesians comes to a close, Paul tells us about the armor of God which He gives us to fight temptation and the evil around us.  He reminds us of who the real enemy is and that this armor is Jesus Christ.  God clothes us with Jesus Christ and  in His victory can we stand in the “evil day.”  For the victory is ours in Jesus Christ.

The world has it’s own views of marriage, the role of husbands and the role of wives. These worldly views are far from God’s Word. Ephesians 5:22-33 gives us the truth about marriage, husbands and wives based on the relationship between Christ and His bride the church.

Pastor Thomas leads a study of the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard from Matthew 19 and 20, noting the parable, its application,  and what led to Jesus telling the parable.

Pastor David Smith continues our study in Ephesians beginning at chapter 5, verse 3.

Paul now leads us into a discussion of new life in Christ in chapter 4.  The language here reminds us of our baptism.  For at our baptism we put off the old man, our hard hearts and our sinful desires.  We also put on Christ with His righteousness and holiness.  We are renewed and have a whole new way to live our lives in Christ.

Unity is a continuing theme in Ephesians.  In chapter 4 “the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” takes center stage.  This unity is a gift of God to us as we continue in the faith in Jesus Christ.  We are to hasten to keep this God given gift.  This is possible only through Jesus Christ giving His people so many blessed gifts.

In Ephesians 3 Paul tells us what the mystery is.  The mystery is that it is God’s will that Paul preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles.  For they too are fellow heirs and partakers of the promises of forgiveness of sins and eternal life in Christ.
