The normal human tendency to compare our lives to others can actually disorient us to such an extent that we can question the goodness of God. Yet in the presence of God, He reveals a new perspective for His people about their future and reminds us that He is our ultimate good and satisfaction.

When life feels overwhelming, what do you magnify—your circumstances or your Redeemer? David wrote Psalm 34 while running for his life, and yet his focus wasn’t on his problems but on God’s goodness. This Psalm shows us how God meets us in our fears and invites us to find hope in Him.

As the rich ruler comes to Jesus looking for eternal life, it is clear that he values what he has over what God has for him. As followers of Jesus, we are continually being shaped into the likeness of Christ, including what we value. We now view everything we have not as our own, but given to us as stewards of God's blessing, being generous with what he has given us in order to love people well.
