Jacob calls his sons together to give them blessings before he dies. Judah receives the honor of the first born.

Joseph's plan comes to its climax when the youngest brother is found with Joseph's silver cup.

After some time Jacob and his family run out of food and the need to return to Egypt arises. Jacob allows for Benjamin, his favorite son, to go down to Egypt in order that they might buy food.

Joseph's brothers come before him to purchase grain during the famine. They do not recognize Joseph but he recognizes them. Joseph tests their character by accusing them of being spies.

Pharaoh has two dreams, one with seven plump cows that were swallowed up by seven thin cows, and one with seven ears of good corn swallowed up by seven blighted ears. Joseph is remembered and God grants the interpretation of the dreams.

Joseph, still imprisoned, interprets the dreams of Pharaoh's cupbearer and chief baker. The cupbearer receives good news that he will be restored to his position and Joseph asks to be remembered. The baker receives bad news that he will be executed in three days. In the end Joseph is forgotten by the cupbearer.

Potiphar's wife tempts Joseph and he resists.

How God blessed Joseph even in hard circumstances, first as he rose in prominence in Potiphar's house, then as he was imprisoned.

Jacob's favored son Joseph tells of his dreams that he will rule over his brothers. His brothers plot out of hatred to kill Joseph yet sell him instead. Joseph is then brought to Egypt and sold to Potiphar, the captain of the guard.

Jacob is told to go deeper into the promised land and return to Bethel. Jacob obeys God despite fears of being attacked from the surrounding peoples.

Dinah the daughter of Jacob is raped by Shechem. Jacob responds with passivity and while Jacob's sons respond with anger.

Jacob wrestles with God throughout the night and in the morning is given a new name, Israel, meaning strives with God.
