S2:E3. “We can do hard things!” - A Conversation with Ella Friess 02.12.2024

This episode of Something about the Sea completes the trio of adventure stories, fittingly with Ella Friess, who not only had a part to play in both adventures I spoke about with Seb and Ben, but also had a pretty enormous adventure of her own branching out from where we all met up in Morocco last year. For Ella, that was just the beginning of a trip to walk the Camino de Santiago, an 839km hike a...

S2:E2. “The relative comfort of iron chunks”- A Conversation with Ben Stringer 10.11.2024

Last winter, knowing Seb, Grace, and a group of other crew from the Wave in Bristol were headed to Morocco, Ben wanted to plan an adventure around that as an end location. He landed on the idea of jumping aboard the Mauritania Iron Ore train, and travelling 700km through the desert, then another 1200 plus of hitchhiking to arrive at Imsouane in Morocco in January/February last year. Follow Ben her...

S2:01. “Limp Mode to Imsouane”- A Conversation With Seb Vincent 25.10.2024

One year on from our France adventure, I’m re-launching Something about the Sea for a series of conversations with friends, adventurers, surfers and just some really cool folks. Expect conversations about surfing and adventure, resilience and mental health. I suspect slightly less cous-cous chat than series one (sorry cous-cous fans) but some fabulous chats with awesome people. First up is Seb. Se...

Episode 09: 244km 14.11.2023

It’s been a few days of a lot of walking and little phone signal or battery, so a pretty huge increase in our km count for this episode, and a whole bunch of cool stories to tell.

Episode 08: 135 km 09.11.2023

Back on track after the storm, Angus and Sam leave Biscarosse for phase 2 of the journey. En route they meet Kai and Nico, both cycle tourers and long term adventurers, setting up camp together for the night. This episode features an extended conversation with them talking about adventure travel, ‘real jobs’, human connection and the importance of sunlight and Argentinian Yerba Maté.

Episode 07: 115km (and a slight detour) 05.11.2023

Sam and Angus pass the halfway point, and make a detour to avoid storms and surf some sheltered breaks

Episode 06: 83 kilometres 31.10.2023

A day back on the beach, a lost wetsuit and more bad weather. Sam and Angus talk about testing resilience, physical challenge and the act of ‘moving on’.

Episode 05: 41 kilometres 27.10.2023

Several days of rain and thunderstorms have meant focusing on walking rather than surfing. Beautiful forest, piste cyclable, biblical downpours and another abandoned shack.

Episode 04: 10 kilometres 25.10.2023

Day one is complete. Sam and Angus finally have some kilometres under their boots and find interesting accommodation for a stormy evening.
