God prizes faith in his word, over our feelings, circumstances, the opinion of others. His word is this: God saves sinners. His name is Jesus. Believe on him and be saved.

Blessing comes when we receive and submit to Jesus as He is and not as we want or perceive him to be

God meets us in the desert of our lives, in pain, privation, suffering. We must be stripped of all our false saviors to understand our need for the real One.

The kingdom of power comes thru weakness. It’s not “your best life now.” He calls us to come and die.

Speaking and listening is a matter of life and death. Nothing is more imports than words. The word made us. The word saved us. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Prov 18.21). And, there is “a time to keep silence, and a time to speak” (Eccl 3.7).

We are enriched with power and wealth to enrich others, as Jesus Christ has done for us

The righteous are driven by desire, and the righteous alone will have their deepest desires fulfilled. Beneath the deep “no” is a deeper “yes.” All promises find their “yes and amen” in Jesus Christ. As Augustine wrote on page 1 of his scandalous Confessions, “O God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”

Discipline is a sign of delight. God disciplines those he loves. As parents, we should do. Not to is to be a willing party to their death.

The heart is the wellspring of life, not just the seat of the emotions as we are prone to think in the west. The Proverbs give us key insights into how to live well in light of this fact.

Marriage is God’s idea, and the biblical picture of marriage is way ahead of its time. Also, marriage is maybe the best way of understanding God’s big plan for all things spanning from Genesis to Revelation. Marriage is key for everyone.

Compassion comes from the Latin meaning “to suffer with.” In the Greek it literally means to tug at the guts. This is the emotion most ascribed to Jesus in the Gospels. It characterizes him. May it characterize us, not only in word but in action.

God’s plan has always been for humans as his children to saturate the earth with his image. Jesus has made this possible by reconciling us to God. He calls us to share this good news and make disciples who make more disciples. Saturation is the plan. Simplicity of life will help us execute it.

We are saved not just from sin but for a sonship. The church is the family of God.
