Episodes

The Dr. Giggles (1992) Problem 28.10.2022

Well, we couldn't do good movies for all of October, right? Well, we say that but neither host actually hate this silly puntastic 90 minute live action cartoon. They also talk about Jen's dislike of one of the movie's stars, guilty pleasures, the upcoming Wednesday Netflix show and disagree about acting quality in horror movies.  Contains strong language.

The Poltergeist (1982) Problem 21.10.2022

It's Poltergeist time! This is Jen's pick and while this movie is one of our host's favourite horror movies, the other thinks it's fine. Strap in, folks, there be mild disagreements. They talk about the Poltergeist "curse" (how could they not?), Joss Whedon's Firefly and announce what movie is next... Contains strong language.

The Carrie (1976) Problem 14.10.2022

It's the week of Jimmy's birthday, so he has picked a movie from his year of birth and since it's spooky month, they're talking about Carrie. This is a movie that both hosts love but only one has read the book. They discuss that, the remakes and Jimmy talks about his experience of his very first Comic-Con visit. Contains strong language.

The New Nightmare (1994) Problem 07.10.2022

It's spooky season and what better way to start it off with the seventh movie in a franchise? Jimmy and Jen talk about Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, what their favourite horror franchise killer is and just what happened to the Dumbo episode that was supposed to drop last week? Contains very strong language.

The Death Becomes Her (1992) Problem 23.09.2022

What initially starts as a bad pick, this episode on Death Becomes Her actually turns into a fun discussion of a fun movie. Topics include missing cast members, women, cats, and whether 10 year olds should watch Breaking Bad...We actually don't tangent as much as usual, shockingly.  Next week, we cover the oldest movie yet on the podcast... Contains strong language.

The Monster Squad (1987) Problem 31.08.2022

We're back in the 80s again, with The Monster Squad. Jimmy and Jen discuss the movie, as you'd expect but also the plot holes that come with it. Other topics include the Goonies, the 1990 IT mini-series, Shane Black and Married With Children. This movie actually has a link to that show, kind of. Includes strong language.

The Poison Ivy (1992) Problem 12.08.2022

Jimmy and Jen dive back into the Drew Barrymore well with this dull movie from 1992. They chat about streaming Vs. physical media, the ditched Batgirl and Scoob movies,  Jen's love for cheesy thrillers and Jimmy's love for a particular soft drink that they are not getting sponsored by. Contains strong language.

The Road House (1989) Problem 05.08.2022

It's time to visit one of Jimmy's favourites growing up and a movie Jen just watched for the first time. They discuss all the usual things such as the cast but also boobs. it makes sense in the context of this boob-filled movie. Jimmy also drops hints to future movies he may pick and by "drop hints", I mean "says the names of movies he'll pick in the future". Contains strong language.

The Mad Love (1995) Problem 20.07.2022

It's romantic drama time here at So, What's the Problem? Jimmy and Jen discuss the usual and the topics of depression and suicide pop up as that is what this dull movie is about. No clip at the start of this one as Jimmy couldn't find a decent conversation from the movie that didn't have copyrighted music behind it. Contains strong language and no show next week as Jimmy was ill and had lost his v...

Stranger Things Spoiler Discussion 13.07.2022

Join Jimmy and Jen as they discuss season 4 of Netflix's Stranger Things. Topics include Stoner culture, Kate Bush, which character we like the least and children swearing. Contains VERY strong language. Like, very very adult language, you have been warned. So, What's the Problem returns next week with Mad Love (1995).

The Cannonball Run (1981) Problem 29.06.2022

Tysto is back for his pick, which is this star filled comedy. The hosts disagree on a couple of things during their discussion on things such as stunts, Jackie Chan, Burt Reynolds, violence between friends and who does Jimmy prefer? Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck? Listen to the end to hear what the next movie is. It's Jen's pick but it's okay, she told Jimmy and said it was okay for him to announce it....

The Flash Gordon (1980) Problem 22.06.2022

Gordon's aliiiive? While Jen is on a break, Jimmy is joined by his friend Tysto of Tysto Commentaries to talk about this weird classic. They talk racial stereotypes, having reactions to movies you have only seen the TV version of and, of course, someone attempts a Brian Blessed impression. Tysto will be back next week with his pick... Contains strong language.

The Election (1999) Problem 15.06.2022

Join Jimmy and Jen as they talk about a movie Jimmy saw for the first time on the day of recording. They discuss the characters, the cast, the book and Jimmy gets a little mean spirited with one of his picks. Just a little bit. Oh and since this movie is called Election, expect things to get a bit political. Again, though, just a little bit. It's Jen's last show for a few weeks but she'll be back...

The Live and Let Die (1973) Problem 08.06.2022

Jimmy and Jen make a long overdue re-visit to the decade the former was born in to discuss Roger Moore's first Bond movie. Jimmy, with zero authority, teaches Jen about Bond and Jen smiles and nods politely. Contains strong language.

The Adventures in Babysitting (1987) Problem 01.06.2022

We're back and for our first official episode of year three, Jen picked a Chris Columbus movie from the 80s! We talk about offensive language, Girl Meets World, The Rolling Stones, Friends and Kevin Spacey. You know, the usual. Contains strong language.

The Clip Show Problem (Year Two) 25.05.2022

So, here it is, our year two clip show! A collection of clips from the second year of our podcast. Revisit moments from 48 Hrs., Beauty and the Beat, Halloween 3,Blind Date and more! Re-listen to the rants, the the tangents and the mistakes. Contains strong language, as usual. It's be weird if I edited all of the swearing out.

The Clip Show Problem (Year One) 16.05.2022

Hey, folks, Jimmy and Jen are taking a wee break but since they don't want to leave you all with no shows, they have decided to release clip shows. Is that lazy? Not really, it still took Jimmy weeks to listen to the episodes again to find clips and then edit them together. Really doesn't feel like a break at all... anyway, enjoys this "best of" from the first year of the podcast and hopefully nex...

Second Anniversary Special! 09.05.2022

It’s our second anniversary on May 11th so Jimmy and Jen did what they did last year and just chatted for almost an hour. Topics include potential movies to be covered, repetition and Jimmy goes asks Jen some questions regarding the first two years. As always, includes strong language. Next week, will be our very first clip show!

The Prom Night (1980) Problem 02.05.2022

It's prom season, so we're covering the original Prom Night! It's a movie one of us doesn't like very much and one the other likes kind of a little bit. We talk about disappearing characters, pointless dance sequences and Blu-ray commentators missing a major plot point. Stay tuned to hear our plans for May as it's anniversary month at the podcast. Shockingly contains strong language!

The Three Men and a Baby (1987) Problem 24.04.2022

Back to 1987 with our first Ted Danson movie, first Tom Selleck movie and third Steve Guttenberg movie. But who's counting? We talk Urban Legends, the stress of having newborn babies and disagree on one element of the movie. Next week, we are tackling a horror movie... wooooo! Contains strong language. Send us feedback or questions, opinions etc at contact@shiftybench.co.uk

The Short Circuit 2 (1988) Problem 17.04.2022

So, we are doing another sequel to a movie we've covered and guess what? There is still one major problem with it. We do talk about the positives of that problem, though without outright justifying it. Other topics include model shots that may not be model shots, the unofficial Short Circuit 3 that you can watch on YouTube and Jimmy hints at his plans for the upcoming anniversary of the podcast. C...

The My Girl 2 (1994) Problem 04.04.2022

It's sequel time and here is one of a movie we've already covered. Which is rare. Jimmy and Jen kind of agree on the movie and discuss retconning, boring pointless plotlines and Jimmy yet again rages war on a character.  It'll be another sequel next week, tune in to find out what. Contains (very) strong language.

The Big (1988) Problem 27.03.2022

Jimmy and Jen discuss the bleak horror drama that is Big. They also talk about the Oscars, Jimmy's trip to New York, the MCU (again, sorry) and Jimmy says "you know" a lot at one point. It's quite odd, you know? We both watched the theatrical version but talk about the extended cut too, Jimmy watched extra scenes for the purpose of discussion. Contains strong language and adult themes. Hey, blame...

The Speed (1994) Problem 21.03.2022

Wait, a 90s action movie picked by Jen? And a good one at that! The duo talk about the cast, obviously, opening credits sequences, Joss Whedon's input, when bad performances do and do not matter and Jimmy spoils the movie Twister for Jen. Contains strong language.

The American Pie (1999) Problem 14.03.2022

Jen and Jimmy tackle a favourite of Jen's and one that Jimmy doesn't dislike. They talk about the one main, huge problem the movie has which leads into a discussion about being a woman online. Stuff gets kind of real, folks. Also, they talk about conventions and Jimmy's hatred for a character in the movie. Contains strong language
