Duke's glorious choke job ends a week of either blowouts or fantastic finishes. Arizona and Michigan highlights the Final Four, but UConn or Illinois can surprise. Plus, coaching changes could pull a podcast favorite from the NBA.

Nebraska turns Oklahoma City into a home court, and goes from a lifetime without an NCAA tournament win to the Sweet 16. They meet fellow Big 10 Iowa, which defeats the two-time champs Florida. No. 1s Duke, Arizona and Michigan survive and advance. If there's a Cinderella, it's #11 play-in Texas with an easy road through the first week.

While top basketball teams are sleepwalking through January, federal prosecutors showed their work in a major game-fixing indictment. Meanwhile, the Big East and ACC showcase surprising upper-tier teams, and a possible first-time NCAA tournament team is making waves in the small conferences.

Top teams sleepwalking through the break find the going tough. Michigan shocked by Wisconsin, Duke troubled by Louisville, Auburn celebration cut short by a fingertip, Kansas can't buy a victory. Who still needs a logo win? Oh, and there's that football game between Basketball School Indiana and The Team That Shouldn't Be In The Playoffs.

Football playoffs continue to be underwhelming, and the television rating agree. Thankfully, basketball is creating feel-good stories as we move into 2026.

As college basketball turns to the new year, we find more Cinderellas. NCAA-ineligible St. Thomas could wreck the Summit. Akron leads an improving MAC. Yale is a strong favorite in the Ivy. UC San Diego and UC Irvine might be at-large contenders in the Big West. St. Mary's and New Mexico try to prevent leaving teams from winning their conference titles. And finals participants Florida and Houston...

Preview #1 takes us from the Northeast to the Big 10. Michigan is dominant so far, but there's trap games in February. The Big East and ACC look for more bids come March. Mid-level schools live by the transfer portal and die by the transfer portal. And a first look for Cinderellas in the Ohio Valley, Patriot and the Coastal.

The first round of the football playoffs was totally unnecessary. Luckily, there was basketball. Vandy and Miami OH remain unbeaten, which is more than Duke could do. Plus, one more Guaranteed Winner on a quarterfinal football matchup for entertainment purposes only during the holidays.

Fernando good. Diego bad. Bowl picks guaranteed. Now let's get to basketball. Credit goes to big time programs scheduling big time games. Outsiders are taking over the Big 12. New faces may be taking over the SEC. Bedlam--and other big games--need to be on campus courts. Get rid of the neutral court games!

 We do it better than the bowl committees. Georgia Tech and Vandy headlines the non-playoff bowls. But we also find jewels with some Texas-on-Texas violence, a worthy opponent for Penn State, and a bowl that could become the next advertising star like the Pop-Tart Bowl. And we even liked two bowls enough to leave them alone. 

The playoff committee's need for an ACC team overshadowed Fernando Mendoza's Heisman Moment after the Big 10 title game. Boise State wins the Mountain West title and recalls CM Punk's epic 2011 WWE promo. It's OK, we'll explain it all. And in basketball, Iowa State destroys #1 Purdue at home.

The Coaching Carousel may be stupid, but the Playoff Carousel could be even stupider. How about the Chaos Theory when James Madison gets upset and UNLV makes the playoffs? It exists! More likely, the committee has to choose between Alabama, Notre Dame and Miami for two at-large spots. And two more Mortgage Plays for entertainment purposes only.

Lane Kiffin finally makes a decision, but it probably had more to do with the winner of the Iron Bowl than loyalty to Ole Miss or affinity for LSU. The question now is whether Texas makes the playoffs with three losses. The Big 10 title game matters because the winner goes to the Rose Bowl. And the ACC title game matters to see how the playoff committee twists itself into knots if Duke wins.

On the shank of Thanksgiving, we're thankful for basketball championships first thing in the morning, college football after the Thanksgiving meal and one more Mortgage Play on Saturday night.

A few unexpected losses can send a number of conferences into a tailspin. Another loss to Michigan will send Ohio State into more than a tailspin even if they rebound to win the national title--again. Don't be surprised to find Lane Kiffin hanging out at the Florida State/Florida game after an Egg Bowl victory. And maybe now the playoff committee will recognize James Madison.
