The Troopers dive in on week 5! We talk late game situations and get an absolute 💎 from Coach Larson to get the ball inbounds. As usual, our games of the past week and games they’re looking forward to this week. Tony add’s more gyms to his total and Doug has another state championship prediction in 3A.

Scott Ruden doesn’t have your typical coaches background. He didn’t play basketball past his sophomore year of high school, he’s currently a farmer and his team focuses on defense👀. He was great to talk to and get perspective about being present and appreciating what you have.

Week 4 of Hoop Troop has us talking district matchups. Good, bad and could be better. As usual, we have some great games to view this week and we’ll give you the rundown on which ones those are. You can never talk about coaches wearing jeans on the sidelines too much, so we do that too!

Derrick Dengler has only been coaching for 10 years, with 5 of those years have been spent as a head coach. He’s already made multiple trips to the state tournament and has even cut down there nets last season! He’s a guy who’s learned from everyone he’s been around and has improved himself as a coach because of that.

Week 3 brings us to district announcements, some new “teams to watch” and proper sideline attire! More big games this week in the state of Iowa!

Coach Watson is one of the great young coaches in our state. An absolute stud in High School, Brett ended his HS career 5th all time in scoring. After a pending a redshirt year at Morningside he then spent 4 years at Wayne State where he continues to get buckets. On week 2 of Hoop Troop we have some great games to talk about. We had a bit of a snow❄️ storm here in Iowa but still had plenty of really good games! Week 2 also brings some new teams into our “teams to watch” discussion. Ryan questions us about transfers/recruiting and we all have an opinion!

Joel Rankin has been a staple at DCG, he started coaching there before there was a Wal Mart on Grimes😱! He’s had some really good teams and has another one this year. A native of Peoria, IL, Joel made a few moves before landing at DCG. He even came across a few Shooters Touch guests on his journey!

Hoop Troop episode 1 covers basketball in all 4 classes. The Troopers give us their favorite games from last week, one (sometimes three) team to keep an eye on, one unique thing they saw last week and a game they’re looking forward to!

Hoop Troop is a new project we are rolling out, talking to other hoop heads in all corners of Iowa. We will be putting the focus back on high school teams and giving you our thoughts on which ones to watch and games to pay attention to.

Episode 100 brings you Adolph Kochendorfer. Coach K, as he’s sometimes called, has been coaching for 30+ years and has over 500 career wins, multiple state tournament appearances and a state title.

Originally from Iowa, Greg Lansing hit every rung of the “process to a head coach” ladder. He started as a GA at his Alma Mater, South Dakota, and ended as a Head Coach at Indiana State. He’s enjoyed his time off, but still has a passion for coaching. We know we’ll see him back in the hardwood very soon!

Jeff Ebling brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Indianola. He’s our final guest of our 5 with 5 mini series.

A long time friend of the podcast, Trevor Mickelson begins his first year as a head coach at ADM. Coming from Waukee, Trevor has coaches some great teams!

Aaron Dose has plenty of coaching experience, but this year he will lead the Comets of North Polk for the first time. He’s learned from great mentors and is a constant student of the game.

Kelvin Adams starts his journey with the Madrid Lady Tigers this week. Kelvin has been a long time friend of the podcast but it was great to learn more about his priorities with the team and his journey to Madrid.

After spending the last eight seasons as an assistant coach, Devvin Davis is ready to take the next step and move into the lead role. She’s been preparing for this moment her entire career and she’s ready!

As a coaches son, Brandon Sharp always knew he would probably end up a coach. An injury his senior year at Simpson allowed him to take over some coaching responsibilities and he never looked back. Now the head boy’s coach at Grinnell high, coach Sharp is expecting great things from his team this year.

Leading scorer in Iowa Falls/Alden history and 2-time All State selection, Casey Schlatter has all the accolades. But things really changed for Casey when he was selected 2nd team all conference as a sophomore. Now an assistant coach at Augustana, he continues to build on his career in hoops.

Basketball has brought JD from Washington to Iowa, from Iowa to Arizona and back to Iowa. He has a true passion for the game and it’s obvious that he does things the right way!

A Cedar Rapids Washington grad and a certified bucket getter, Dani Franklin has a great basketball story. As a youngster she was a multi sport athlete who eventually settled on basketball. She ended up playing at Valparaiso and now is the new head coach at Waukee. We hope you enjoy learning about her playing and coaching journey!
