Shellheads: A TMNT Podcast

It is time for another character spotlight! This time around it's Splinter's turn. As the Turtle's master and mentor, it's easy for this iconic character to turn into a one note stereotype. We talk about the differences in the various versions of Splinter weve been given and even talk about ways to make him more dynamic going forward.

In 1987, Mirage launched Tales of the TMNT as a companion to their flagship ongoing book. It was short lived and can easily be seen as filler, but the stories and characters in the pages of these 7 comics have been some of the most influential in all of Turtles lore. In Episode 29, Jeff and Sergio deep-dive into Tales Vol. 1.

It's time for a new episode of Shellheads! This time we explore the second chunk of episodes in the 3rd season of the original television show. If you want to follow along, the required watching is episodes 17-33 of Season 3. Otherwise, enjoy the show!

The IDW TMNT comic that launched in 2011 has been going strong for nearly 200 books (if you count side stories) as the ongoing comic crosses #100, we take a look at how the Turtles got to where they are today. Kyle from Discussing Comics joins us for this very special cross over episode, enjoy!

Our 25th episode of Shellheads has us talking about the Turtle's closest human friend April O'neil! Many of the versions of April we've come to adore haven't aged well, but she remains a pivotal part of the Turtle's lore. We've finally made it to one of the most beloved TMNT TV series, the 2012 Nickelodeon CGI show. Packed with big names and produced to impress, it's hard to not like this lovable version of the TMNT. We tear through the first half of Season 1 in this 24th episode of Shellheads!

For Ep. 23 we dip our toes back into the Mirage comics continuity. Jeff and Serg explore all the Eastman and Laird books between #12 and 21, including the iconic Return to New York storyline.

For Episode 22 we jump back into one our most beloved TMNT series, the 4Kids produced 2K3 animated cartoon. We're coving quite a large chunk of the first season, specifically episodes S01E13-S01E26.

We've finally made it to the IDW comic series. This proper reboot has been continuously published since 2011 and will reach its #100 issue in the coming months. Our Shellheads read through the first run of the books and are hyped to finally get to delve into some of the freshest TMNT stories in years!

Its time for another character spotlight! This time around we focus on the "Cool But Rude" brute, Raphael!

We're back to reading the original Mirage Turtles! This time we hit the Mikey, Don and Leo one-shots and #8-11 of the ongoing. This is an iconic run of the book whose influence can be seen in everything from the first film to the IDW series. These are the roots of the TMNT as we know them.

In our 3rd character spotlight, we turn our attention to Michelangelo! He's the party dude who's always looking for a decent pizza. We chat about the different depictions of the Nunchuk wielding Shellback and poke fun at the usefulness of his chosen weapon. Enjoy!

We've finally made it to TMNT 2K3! Its the closest thing we have, and probably will ever get, to the original comic book on TV screens. We cover episodes 101-112 in this cast and we leave with a wet appetite for more 2K3 action!

In this episode we cover the issues 5-12 of the popular Archie published comics from the late-80s/early 90s. We meet a lot of new characters and get our first sweet tastes of the bizarre tales from the minds of Stephen Murphy and Ryan Brown.

The brand new DCAU movie, Batman Vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is out now and our two Shellheads had a front row seat (in the living room) on release day. Check out episode 12, we talk about the film, the grander implications of this version of the Turtles and compare it to the Comic Book Source Material.

Episode #011 is all about the first 13 episodes of Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. Widely seen as one of the worst iterations of the TMNT, this Saban produced show from the late '90s has many dubious distinctions. We do have a few nice things to say about the show, but boy do we have a lot to say about this abomination.

From the Turtle-Van to the Shellraiser, Donny is responsible for all of the gizmo's and gadgets the turtles use in nearly every episode of every iteration of the turtles. We dissect the concept of the tech guy and give major spoilers for two awesome comic series in this all-new episode of Shellheads!!!!
