DJ Michael Lee - Live At The Mind Shaft (SF) - 3-23-76 25.08.2017

From the Michael Lee tape archives. This tape was recorded live at The Mind Shaft in San Francisco. I was able to salvage most of the recording, minus the last 42 minutes of Side B. The recording was on Scotch brand reel-to-reel tape. This brand of tape is notorious for sticky shed syndrome. This is where the tape becomes sticky and binding starts to fall apart and clog the tape machine heads. "Ba...

From the Alan Harris mixtape archives. Extra special thanks to Alan for access to his tape archives. Alan was 1 of 3 owners of 12 West. This tape was recorded live at 12 West nightclub in New York, on a Saturday night. This was the sound of NY nightlife in 1979.

DJ Troy Dougherty - Live At D.C.A. Nightclub (Philly, PA) - 9-23-78 - Tape 1 (Jim Hopkins Remaster) 11.08.2017

From the Jimmy DePre tape archives. Recorded live at D.C.A. nightclub in Philly, PA This recording was taken from an 8-track tape cart. Therefore, the sound quality is not of the highest quality. You will also hear a slight dropout every 22.5 minutes due to the tape changing tracks. I did the best that I could to remaster this recording. Excessive tape hiss was removed, and all levels between song...

From the Jimmy DePre tape archives. Recorded live at D.C.A Nightclub in Philadelphia, PA. This was transferred from an 8-track tape cartridge. DJ Michael Lee - Funky Flaminco - 1976 Minor Disco Imports (Jim Hopkins Remaster) 23.06.2017

From the Michael Lee tape archives. This is a home recorded mixtape. It's a slip cue mix and not beat matched. This is a compilation that Michael made from his import disco 45RPM record collection. There are some great rare disco tracks on this tape! I did some remastering on the mix. I added new EQ, and leveled out the levels between songs, so that they all match.

Perceptive Audio - The Bolt (SF) #16 - October 1, 1976 04.06.2017

Another rare bar mixtape from 1976. This was the soundtrack for The Bolt bar in San Francisco, in 1976! From the Rod Roderick tape archives. These tapes were bar tapes that were played off of reel-to-reel tape. Perceptive Audio supplied the tapes to bars. The tapes were made by Sanford Kellman (He later owned The I-Beam club in San Francisco).

DJ Bobby Viteritti - Lost In Florida - 1977 (Jim Hopkins Remaster) 14.05.2017

I spent 3 hours repairing/restoring this rare Disco DJ mix.... Whomever digitized the original digital file for this, had the audio recording level set too high. The audio file was over saturated in volume, and distorted. I was able to repair it, to the correct level, and remove the distortion. Tape hiss has been removed, and proper EQ was applied. I also enhanced the stereo seraration.

A rip from my bootleg disco mixer vinyl collection. This one has quite a bit of classic 80's Hi-NRG tracks in it. Released in 1984.

These bar tapes were made by Sanford Kellman (who later owned The I-Beam) and Mel Ford...

DJ Beau Thomson - Cha Cha 3 15.03.2017

This is the early 80's Hi-NRG sound of San Francisco. The sound that moved me, and got me really interested in Hi-NRG dance music, and the records that the SF DJs were spinning at the time. Beau Thompson was a DJ at the following bars/clubs in San Francisco. Castro Station Bar, The Phoenix, and he also played a little at The Trocadero Transfer. From the Mike Ritchey tape archives.

Perceptive Audio - The Bolt (SF) #22 - 2-9-77 10.03.2017

Randall Schiller gave me a small stack of reel to reel tapes from The Bolt bar in San Francisco (Thanks Randy!). The Bolt was located in the same space that is currently The Powerhouse on Folsom Street, between 9th and 10th. Two of the tapes that Randy gave me were covered in mold (see before and after photos below) I spent an hour hand cleaning the mold off of the tape. After 4 slow passes of wip...

Perceptive Audio - The Bolt (SF) #18 - October 1976 05.03.2017

A tape from Perceptive Audio. It looks like they were a mixtape service based in S.F. that made tapes for bars/clubs. This one is labeled The Bolt, which was a bar that was located in the South of Market area in San Francisco. The back of the tape box has an area where the bartenders would write the date and time that the tape was played. This tape represents the soundtrack of The Bolt in 1976. Fr...

DJ Dicken Acraman - Live At Le Club (NY) - 8-8-75 28.02.2017

This is the second to oldest DJ mixtape that we have acquired. At first I thought it was an unmarked reel-to-reel tape, but looking closer at the tape box spine, I could barely see the writing due to the ink fading. Luckily, Dicken pressed hard when he wrote on it, so I was able to read the indentation. Recorded live at Le Club in New York. The club opened on NYE 1960 and ran through to 1995. *Thi...
