In the third of the 'Postcard for Plodders' series, Vijay looks at the Lord's letter to Pergamum (Rev 2.12-17). From this 'postcard' we learn that perseverance is about not compromising on the essentials. When followers of Jesus compromise their faith, they concede important teachings in the core beliefs and/or grow morally lax for some perceived gain. Perseverance means resisting compromise.

For the Evening Service, Vijay looks 2 Kings 4:1-7. He reminds us that we often don't know how needy and dependent we really are until our foundations are pulled out from under us. But, these sorts of situations can bring us to realise that we all are ultimately dependent on God. When we turn to him, we find ourselves fulfilled with his abundance.
Resolute in Suffering 22.02.2011 38:45
In the second 'Postcard for Plodders', Vijay looks at the letter of Christ to Smyrna (Rev 2.8-11). This letter looks at perseverance from a another angle. Perseverance means hanging on to the faith and values that you know to be true as a follower of Jesus even when it means you have to suffer and die for it.

To conclude the 24/3 Prayer, Vijay brings our attention to the Lord's Prayer. Expanding on the words of the Lord's Prayer, Vijay highlights three activities involved in prayer. Fleshing out the story of Elijah's prayer for rain in 1 Kings 18, he suggests three things: 1) spiritual drought is the result of idolatry. He notes that compromise is idolatry, as much as a wholehearted devotion to anything other than God. 2) Spiritual abundance is the result of repe...

The Real Christmas Miracle 12.12.2010 31:35
This morning, Vijay explores Joseph's experience of the Christmas story (Matt 1:18-24). He suggests that for Joseph, the miracle of the virgin birth pales in comparison to the real miracle of Christmas - that God would become human. But, that is the great insight of Christmas: God is 'Immanuel', the God who has always (right from the creation of the world) been a God who is with us and for us. Wha...

Be challenged as you compare your faith to Old Testament characters like Abel, Enoch, Noah and Abraham and be encouraged as you hear how faith that is centred on Jesus Christ can help you keep going through times of uncertainty.
