Cornerstone Presbyterian Church is located in Landenberg, PA a short distance from the DE/PA state line. We are led by our senior pastor Billy Haines and a team of elders. Our vision is to see the love of God transform people into mature disciples of Jesus Christ who love God above all else and who sacrificially love others. In addition to the weekly sermon our podcast includes occasional bonus content ranging from interviews to discussions on various topics. We hope that you will be encouraged and challenged to love God and love others as you listen each week.

Sermon | Saved From The Curse Of The Law | Galatians 3:10-14 02.12.2025

As we begin Advent, we step back from mere sentimentality to consider why Jesus truly came. Scripture tells us that all who rely on the works of the law stand under God’s curse, a reality we rarely think about, yet one that lies at the heart of the gospel. The law exposes our failure, and no amount of moral effort can remove the curse our sin deserves. But the good news is this: Christ redeemed us...

Sermon | Down In The Dumps | Psalm 42 23.11.2025

In Psalm 42, the writer asks himself, "why is my soul downcast?" As you read the psalm, it is clear to us! He is under attack from enemies; he is unable to eat; he is overwhelmed with life. He feels discouraged and depressed, but his circumstances and feelings are not the focus of this Psalm. The focus is what he does amid the trials. He speaks to his soul, confronts his misplaced hope,...

Sermon | The Problem of Sexual Immorality | 1 Corinthians :1-13 17.11.2025

In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul confronts both the serious sexual sin within the Corinthian church and the church’s troubling silence about it. He calls believers to respond to sin, whether in our own lives or in the lives of others, with grief, not arrogance or indifference. Sin grows when minimized, and even a little “leaven” can spread through the whole community. Because Christ our Passover Lamb has...

Sermon | The Problem of Spiritual Arrogance | 1 Corinthians 4:1-21 17.11.2025

In 1 Corinthians 4, Paul exposes the danger of thinking we’ve “arrived” spiritually when in truth we have not. The Corinthians mistook early success and blessing for maturity, growing proud instead of dependent. Paul reminds them that faithful servants know their place, live as stewards under Christ’s authority, and await His judgment, not the world’s approval. True maturity orients the heart in g...

Sermon | The Problem of Immaturity | 1 Corinthians 3:1-23 17.11.2025

In our passage this week Paul calls out the Corinthians for their lack of real spiritual growth. They are still living on “milk” instead of “solid food.” He reminds the church that only God gives growth, warns against false progress built on worldly wisdom, and calls believers to build their lives on Christ alone. The goal isn’t independence from God but greater dependence on his grace—the only pa...

Sermon | Cast Out Fear with Fear | Exodus 1:6-22 13.11.2025

Fear is a powerful motivator – sometimes for the good, but often it can drive us to unwise and ungodly decisions. In the book of Exodus, two godly and courageous women face one of the most powerful kings of the day and stand as an example to us of what it means to fear the Lord and ultimately point us to Christ.

Sermon | Jesus Christ and Him Crucified | 1 Cornthians 2:1-16 29.10.2025

Picking up from his emphasis on the power and wisdom of God found in the cross, Paul continues by contrasting his method of proclamation to the “lofty speech” that was popular in Greek culture. Though Paul was in fact a skilled speaker, he didn’t want anything to distract from or compromise the centrality of Christ crucified. He again contrasts worldly wisdom and power with spiritual wisdom and po...

Sermon | The Power Of The Cross | 1 Corinthians 1:17-31 29.10.2025

The message of the cross runs counter to everything the world celebrates. To some it seems weak or foolish, but to those who believe, it is the very power and wisdom of God. The cross exposes our pride, silences our boasting, and shows that salvation comes not through human strength or wisdom, but through the crucified Christ alone.

Sermon | Quarrels in the Church | 1 Corinthians 1:1-17 13.10.2025

Paul opens his letter to the Corinthians by addressing a problem that still plagues the church today—division. Though enriched with every spiritual gift, the Corinthians had allowed personal loyalties and pride to fracture their fellowship. Paul reminds them (and us) that we are one family, sanctified in Christ and called to unity. Our identity, sufficiency, and hope are all found in the cross of...

Sermon | Discover Calling | Exodus 2:11-17,23-24,3:1-12,4:1-3 06.10.2025

In the last sermon in our vision series, Pastor Billy examines the call of Moses. Moses’ story reminds us that God often calls ordinary people to extraordinary tasks. When faced with the enormity of leading Israel out of Egypt and perhaps feeling his own insignificance, Moses asked, “Who am I?” We see in this passage that there are no 'little people' when those people consecrate themselves...

Sermon | Experience Belonging | Acts 2:42-47 29.09.2025

The early church was marked by deep community, devotion, and generosity. Their belonging wasn’t rooted in shared interests or convenience, but in a shared faith centered on God’s Word. They lived out their beliefs in practical, personal, and persistent ways—caring for one another, worshiping together, and welcoming others in. Most importantly, this community was held together not by human effort,...

Sermon | Find Freedom | Romans 7:15-8:2 15.09.2025

We all value freedom, but often look for it in the wrong places. Paul reminds us that even as believers, the struggle with sin is real—our desires and our abilities don’t always align. Yet true brokenness before God is not despair but a gift that leads us to the only answer: Jesus Christ. In Him we find no condemnation and real freedom—freedom from the law of sin and death, and freedom to live by...

Sermon | Know God | Philippians 3:1-11 08.09.2025

We begin our 4-part vision series today with a prayer to “Know God.” In Philippians 3, Paul reminds us that nothing compares to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus. Our confidence is not in what we have done but in what Christ has accomplished for us. Knowing God means experiencing His grace, power, and resurrection hope as we follow Jesus with joy and confidence.

Sermon | A Prayer For Blessing | Psalm 67 08.09.2025

Psalm 67 reminds us that true blessing is not simply health, wealth, or success, but the fullness of life lived in the presence of God—His face shining on us with grace and peace. This blessing is received, not achieved; it comes through Christ, who bore the curse so that we might know God’s favor. Yet we are not blessed for ourselves alone: God blesses us so that His ways and saving power might b...

Sermon | A Prayer Of Holy Longing | Psalm 84 08.09.2025

In Psalm 84 we hear the cry of a heart that longs for God above all else. The psalmist reminds us of the goodness, rightness, and greatness of God’s presence, declaring that one day with Him is better than a thousand elsewhere. As we set God’s truth before us, the Spirit produces in us a holy appetite for Him, leading to lasting security, strength, and contentment. This prayer for holy longing poi...

Sermon | A Prayer For The Spiritually Stagnant | Psalm 34 08.09.2025

Psalm 34 is David’s testimony of God’s deliverance and renewal in a season of need. Spiritual stagnancy can affect any believer, but David shows us the way forward—coming to God with humility, resting in His promises, and seeking His nearness. In Christ, we find the One who redeems, sustains, and satisfies our souls. As we fix our eyes on Him, we are invited to “taste and see that the Lord is good...

Sermon | God Holds You | Proverbs 3:5-6 08.09.2025

We welcome to the pulpit, Mark Van Gilst, founding pastor of Cornerstone. Understanding fully what it means to “trust in the Lord”, gives significant direction to our life goals, and enables us to contend against anxiety and to wrestle for hope and peace in every corner of our lives.

Sermon | A Prayer For The Fearful | Psalm 91 07.08.2025

We welcome to the pulpit, Tyler Brown, who is transitioning this summer from his role as campus staff with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship to the role of church planter in Newark. We live in a world driven by fear. Our society moves with the constant background noise of worry and anxiety. As we study the Psalms this summer, seeking to learn how to pray, Psalm 91 gives us guidance for how to pray...

Sermon | A Prayer Of Adoration | Psalm 29 07.08.2025

Psalm 29 calls us to lift our eyes and behold the glory of God. As David watches a thunderstorm roll in, he sees not chaos but a powerful display of God’s majesty. He summons even the angels to worship, reminding us that God is enthroned over all creation. This glorious God, full of strength and splendor, also gives strength to his people and blesses them with peace. In a day and age that shrinks...

Sermon | A Prayer For A Clean Heart | Psalm 51 07.08.2025

We reflect this week on Psalm 51 and David’s heartfelt cry for inner renewal after his precipitous fall into sin and scandal. Through David’s example, we see three key movements of repentance: he confesses his sin fully without excuse, he grasps God’s mercy as the basis for his hope, and he experiences a complete cleansing that leads to transformation. This psalm reminds us that the question is no...

Sermon | A Prayer For The Weary Soul | Psalm 13 07.08.2025

Pastor Billy begins a new sermon series this week focused on praying through the Psalms. Each week we will look at a different psalm to see what it teaches us about how to pray. We begin with Psalm 13 which is a psalm of lament. We see David surrendering his tears to the Lord in prayer and in the end being filled with abundant joy.

Sermon | I Am the Vine | John 15:1-11 08.07.2025

Today is our last Sunday of the I AM series. Jesus has told us multiple times in multiple ways who he is, why he came, who we are, and how we are to live. Today we focus on the metaphor of the vine and branches. Jesus is the true vine. The questions for us… If we believe in Jesus, how can we be used by him? How can we bear fruit for him? Jesus tells us – abide in him!

Sermon | Persevering In Missions | Psalm 2 02.07.2025

Isaac Shaw is the National Director/President of Delhi Bible Institute and the Senior Pastor of Bible Bhavan Christian Fellowship. Isaac is married to Gloria who is from Colombia. She leads the mercy ministries of the church. Isaac and Gloria have four children, Gloria, Myriam, Sarah and Isaac Jr.

Sermon | I Am the Way, the Truth, the Life | John 14:1-11 02.07.2025

Perhaps no line spoken by Jesus has proven more contentious than that found in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” More than even Jesus’ bold and frequent claims to divinity, this claim to be the only way to the Father, has stirred up much division through the ages. And yet, as we examine the original context, we see that Jesus makes th...
