Episode 7 - Flow 21.02.2024 31:09
Hey, how are ya!? This week, I review Flow. A book by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. The copy I have was published in 2008. He also gave a TedTalk about this topic in 2004 that you can find on YouTube. I enjoyed the book. I think it pairs nicely with whatever religion you follow to hopefully make your religion a little more fun and engaging. Check out the episode to get my full analysis. Episode 6 - Why Buddhism Is True 14.02.2024 33:16
Happy Valentine's Day! In honor of this fantastic holiday, I reviewed a book that has nothing to do with love...other than learning how to love everyone...? This book was good. I found it very interesting. It is a good introduction to the practical side of Buddhism. Way better than The Power of Now. I am not sure I agree with Buddhism being "true," which Wright never explains...but i...
Episode 5 - White Fragility 07.02.2024 33:30
Hello! This week, I review the overly influential book White Fragility written by Dr. Robin DiAngelo. I, obviously, have to love this book as a white person who does not want to be racist...anymore. I must say that it was an insightful book full of wonderful advice about how whites can overcome the racism we all have. I must also say that this book will change my life, once I put it into practice....
Episode 4 - The Plus 31.01.2024 29:45
Happy Week! We are almost done with January. Hopefully, you have been keeping up your New Year's Resolutions. I am. This week, I review The Plus by Greg Gutfeld. It was not a great self-help book. I did glean a few good points of advice but only by sifting through a myriad of bad jokes and pages of Trump defenses. Not sure what I expected though...Gutfeld is a Fox News comedian. I am sure I wi...
Episode 3 - Instruction of Ptah-Hotep 24.01.2024 30:31
The Instruction of Ptah-Hotep is said to be the oldest book. It is also the first self-help book! It is a letter from a father to his son. I was surprised at the wisdom this father decided to pass down to his son and potentially to all of Ancient Egypt. This book dates back to 4000 BC. Come check out what ancient wisdom lies within its few pages. Email the podcast at selfhelpyourselfpodcast@gmail....
Episode 2 - The Power of Now 17.01.2024 28:36
Hello! I hope you are having a wonderful day. Are you fully present in the now? Well, NOW you can be! I review Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now. Spoiler alert, I did not like it; however, it is very thought-provoking. There are some points of his with which I do agree. Find out what I did and did not like about The Power of Now now. Email the podcast at selfhelpyourselfpodcast@gmail.com For yo...
Episode 1 - Hold Me Tight 12.01.2024 32:40
Hey there! This episode is the first official episode of Self Help Yourself. I introduce myself and a bit of my background and perspective. I review the book Hold Me Tight but Sue Johnson. It is a great book. I honestly cannot recommend it enough to those who are in a romantic relationship who want to me it better. Her approach using attachment theory and EFT worked for my wife and me. And I end w...
Episode 0 07.01.2024 4:47
Hello! Welcome to my brand new podcast, Self Help Yourself! I am using the start of 2024 to work on myself, and I figured there might be others out there with the same goal for themselves. So, this podcast is going to be for those who are skeptical about self-help books and relatively ignorant when it comes to coping strategies. We'll explore this stuff together and figure out what works. My p...
