Our attention stays focused on the Oscars as Mike and Taylor review Minari and the Oscar Nominated documentary Crip Camp. The Screening in Kingston team also makes some announcements for upcoming episodes and discusses how foreign language films are starting to get more awards attention in more categories than one.

This week Taylor and Mike dive into another Oscar Nominated film Promising Young Woman, directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Carey Mulligan. Fan questions include some discussion around the acting in One Night In Miami and the difference from watching movies from home to review and being out at the theatre.

Taylor and Mike continue their countdown to the Oscars with reviews of Judas and the Black Messiah, One Night In Miami… and Hillbilly Elegy. They review the films and give their thoughts on if the Oscar Nominations they all got, fit each movie. They also answer fan questions about what makes a screen play an adapted one and give an unfortunate Armie Hammer update.

In what was the strangest film year in our recent history, we take a look at all the Oscar Nominated films from this past year and give you our thoughts, what we’re now looking to catch up on and news about our annual Oscars Pool! To add to the excitement, we answer fan questions throughout the episode. The Academy Awards are coming up April 25.

Mike welcomes back Andrew to the show to talk all things Marvel as the MCU’s first TV Series comes to an end! We review the entire first (and maybe only?) season of WandaVision on Disney Plus. Spoiler Warning on this episode as we go from episode 1 to episode 9, talking about every single fun moment from the entire series and getting ourselves pumped for the next MCU show.  

Yes, the Golden Globes did indeed happen this year! In the first half of the episode, Mike and Taylor discuss the big movie winners and what films they want to see leading up to the Oscars. We walk through every winner of a Golden Globe and Mike gives his thoughts on the general presentation. Taylor and Mike are joined by filmmakers Lara Besa and Ryan Petre, two young directors who have films in the KCFF Local Shorts program! This year the Kingston Canadian Film Festival goes digital, Lara and Ryan give us their experiences finishing a film during the COVID era and their journeys to getting their films in the festival.  

In this week’s episode of pulling movies from a hat, Mike and Taylor discuss the 2018 comedy Holmes & Watson as well as the 1954 war epic The Caine Mutiny, proving once and for all that every movie has connections such as people acting, a camera pointing at them, and dialogue.  

This week’s pull from the hat brought us Sliding Doors and Enemy, two films that have one glaring thing in common, but anything else? We’ll find out as Mike and Taylor review both films, compare them and see what our fans say in the most bizarre of our movie clubs so far.

In our 3rd week of the Movies From a Hat movie club we turn to Empire of the Sun (1987) and Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014). As we compare these two films and hear from our fans, we look back on a long career of Christian Bale who brings a gavroche style of acting to Empire Of The Sun.

This week Mike and Taylor welcome Matt Salton back to the show, this time to talk about the 22nd annual Reelout Queer Film Festival coming up January 29- February 6. In the second half of the show we continue our movies from a hat this week talking about Into The Woods (2014 film) and To The Stars (2020, available on amazon prime).

As a special birthday present to himself, Mike brings back Tyler to discuss Star Trek: The Next Generation! This time, the boys chat about their TNG guilty pleasure episodes. This is Star Trek at its most Star Treky, they go through 5 TNG episodes each that they know are not the best…but are a lot of fun anyway. Live long and prosper!

In our first ever “movies from a hat” episode, Mike and Taylor discuss the 1996 film Lone Star and the 2016 anime Your Name. We hear from our fans and discuss what exactly these films have in common, if anything! Your Name. (Kimi no na wa.) is directed by Makoto Shinkai, and Lone Star features performances from Chris Cooper, Kris Kristofferson and Matthew McConaughey.

This week Mike reviews Wonder Woman 1984 and the post-aploylipiic The Midnight Sky, and Taylor reviews Palm Springs from Andy Samberg, an Amazon Prime original. This episode ends with the first ever “Movies From A Hat” movie club! We put our fan’s suggestions in a hat and draw two films this week for us to watch and try to connect in next week’s episode.

We put a final stamp on 2020 by looking back at every film our team reviewed this past year. We’ll go through every film that got a See It, Stream It, Airplane It and Skip It, giving a final ranking and deciding what were the best of the best and the worst of the worst.

Because we are indeed in a lockdown, Taylor and Mike gives you some more Holiday movie options straight from Netflix! Taylor reviews The Christmas Chronicles, while also giving you a list of great Netflix Christmas movies. Mike also reviews A California Christmas, for some reason.

Screening in Kingston gets you set for the holidays with our first of two Christmas/Holiday movie themed episodes! This week we’re joined by Nicole and Missy who give us their thoughts on the best Christmas Movies. Our team reviews Happiest Season, the latest film from Clea DuVall starring Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis and Alison Brie.

Mike and Taylor get caught up on some new releases that went right to streaming and may even have some awards season ambitions…Taylor reviews Mank (Netflix), Mike reviews Uncle Frank (Amazon Prime), Greyhound (Apple TV sorta) and maybe we bring up that new musical sensation The Prom. With stars like Tom Hanks and Gary Oldman headlining streaming options, it should make for a very interesting...

We open up our emails and get back to fan questions in our all mailbag episode! This week we hear from our fans, get some movie news and see where the film world sits after our month long dive into experimental film. Wonder Woman 1984 approaches, Warner Bros. pulls movies from releasing in theatres and Mads Mikkelsen replaces every actor in all upcoming movie roles!

In the final week of our movie club, we look at the Canadian Film Mouthpiece with a fun Kingston connection! Our panel discusses the film and the overall movie club as we dive into the general topics of film, art and how we approach watching movies. Other topics include:  Patricia Rozema, Amy Nostbakken, Norah Sadava, Her Smell, Toronto and What Did Jack Do?

With the third film comes the unapologetically absurd What Did Jack Do? from writer/director David Lynch best known for his work Twin Peaks. Our panel discusses the so-called “film” as our movie club turns to the strange and yet still entertaining as our panel is split down the middle!

It’s week 2 of our movie club on experimental films! This week Taylor tells us why she selected The Neon Demon, starring Elle Fanning, and our panel reviews the movie, discusses the directors intentions and we hear from several fans who are not quite on the same page as our panel.

It’s our 3rd movie club and this month we kick things off with Under The Skin! The is the first film in our discussion on arthouse films, experimental movies and other movies that sometimes we just simply try to avoid! We’ll review the movie, hear from our fans and discuss Under The Skin, Scarlett Johansson and the directing choices of Jonathan Glazer.
