Saved by the Gospel

In this portion of the book of Hebrews, the inspired writer provides several practical exhortations, encouraging his readers to hold fast to the faith without wavering.

Christ blood accomplished what none of the sacrifices under the old law could ever accomplish. By offering himself as a sacrifice once for all time, Christ blood is able to cleanse us of our sins.

Christians are recipients of a sacrifice far superior to those sacrifices offered under the law of Moses. Christ, by giving his life so we may be saved from our sins, serves as the perfect sacrifice.

The first covenant, made at the time of Moses, was never meant to be permanent. The aspects of the old law were foreshadows of that which was to come.

The word "better" can be found throughout the book of Hebrews. One of the blessings Christians enjoy is a better covenant, made possible only by the blood of Christ.

One of the more interesting, yet least spoken of, characters in the Old Testament is the priest and king, Melchisedec. This portion of Hebrews shows that, just as the priesthood of Melchisedec was superior to the Levitical priesthood, Christians today are served by a great high priest, Jesus Christ.

Hope is a great motivator. Our hope of heaven motivates us to stay faithful in our adherence to the gospel.

Despite what many teach the Bible clearly teaches it is possible for a Christian to forfeit his salvation. This portion of Hebrews warns of the consequences of doing so.

It is a sad situation when children fail to grow as expected. As our heavenly Father, God is disappointed when Christians fail to grow as they ought.
