Saint Joseph Church of Christ Sermons

All of scripture reveals God's heart, mind, will, and ways. These are not just a collection of stories, but the revelation of God through history as it showers us with grace and compassion, even as He brings justice against sin. The brief story of Saul's public confirmation as king is no different.

Saul's journey home following his anointing by Samuel parallels his journey from home. This, too, points to Jesus the Messiah, our Anointed One.

Saul sets off on a quest for wayward donkeys but finds himself in the middle of Samuel's quest for God's appointed king.

1st Samuel 8 gives us a glimpse into both the failings of leaders and the people they lead. When read in context of other scriptures describing the role of judges and kings in ancient Israel, a fuller picture of biblical leadership forms.

1st Samuel 7:2-17 is an interesting mirror to the book's earlier chapters. From rebellion to repentance, from destruction to victory. Israel's longing heart is poured out like water.

Today's message explores what happens when the Lord's ark ends up in the enemy's hands and what happens when God's people devalue God's holiness.

The ark of the covenant is in the Philistine's hands. But did they capture the ark of the Lord or has God captured them?

This morning's message is out 1st Samuel 4:1-22. Superstitious faith puts our hope and trust in something or someone who is powerless to fulfill hope. Praise God our faith in Him isn't empty but is set on His power to save!
