Husband & Wife
Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists
Husband and Wife are two non-believers who have always wanted to read the Bible. Why would we subject ourselves to this you might ask? From our perspective it helps us understand where the Christians around us, here in the Midwest, are coming from when they quote the Bible at us. Husband is basically an Atheist and wife leans Agnostic but mostly Atheist and we’re just having some fun at the Bible’s expense while learning more about what our neighbors claim we’re going to hell over. Matthew Chapter 22: Bible Study by Atheists 10.07.2026 38:05
Jesus kicks off Matthew 22 with the heartwarming tale of a royal wedding where people decline an invitation, murder the messengers, have their city burned down, and then watch some random guy get tied up and thrown into darkness for wearing the wrong outfit. Nothing says “loving kingdom of heaven” quite like a mandatory banquet with a violent dress code. From there, the Pharisees and Herodians ask...
Matthew Chapter 21: Bible Study by Atheists 08.07.2026 36:37
Matthew 21 comes in hot with Jesus rolling into Jerusalem on what appears to be a very questionably acquired donkey-and-colt combo, because apparently “the Lord needs them” counts as a valid rental agreement now. The hosts tear into the whole triumphant-entry scene, from cloak carpets to prophecy gymnastics, with plenty of side-eye at the idea that stealing livestock is fine as long as someone can...
Matthew Chapters 19-20 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 05.07.2026 1:46:01
Matthew 19 and 20 are back on the chopping block, and this Q&A episode gets messy fast. We dig into Jesus’s takes on divorce, celibacy, wealth, eternal life, and labor fairness, only to find out that “Little Maddie” is once again doing the absolute most to make the Pharisees look like mustache-twirling villains. Spoiler: asking theological questions was normal rabbinic behavior, not some sinis...
A Godless Thank You Episode 05.07.2026 11:16
This one isn’t a Bible breakdown, a theological roast, or another round of “why is God like this?” Instead, it’s something way rarer for Sacrilegious Discourse: a sincere, emotional, fireworks-in-the-background thank you to the patrons who stepped up when life got brutally real. After months of job chaos, absurd American healthcare costs, and the kind of financial math that makes you want to flip...
Matthew Chapter 20: Bible Study by Atheists 27.06.2026 36:20
Jesus opens Matthew 20:1–16 with a vineyard parable that somehow turns the kingdom of heaven into the world’s most infuriating payroll dispute. Workers who sweat through the entire day receive the same wage as the people who clocked in for the final hour, and when they complain, the boss basically tells them to stop being jealous of his “generosity.” Naturally, we have thoughts. Loud ones. This be...
Matthew Chapter 19: Bible Study by Atheists 24.06.2026 31:52
Jesus enters Matthew 19 ready to tackle divorce, marriage, celibacy, children, wealth, eternal life, and the surprisingly elaborate seating arrangements of heaven. The result is a theological grab bag in which women remain property, rich people are basically screwed, and the apostles discover they may eventually receive their own judgment thrones. Totally normal chapter . The episode begins with t...
Matthew Chapters 17-18 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 23.06.2026 1:20:19
Matthew 17 crams nearly every piece of Christian branding into one theological clown car. Jesus glows like a freshly polished Transformer, Moses and Elijah materialize for an unexplained mountaintop crossover episode, and God interrupts Peter before he can turn the Transfiguration into a religious camping festival. We unpack Matthew’s extremely subtle message... JESUS IS THE NEW MOSES, DAMMIT, alo...
Matthew Chapter 18: Bible Study by Atheists 21.06.2026 36:49
Jesus kicks off Matthew 18 by telling grown adults they need to become like little children to enter heaven, which immediately raises questions about humility, obedience, and why religion is so obsessed with keeping believers childlike. From there, things escalate quickly: millstones, drowning, chopping off hands, gouging out eyes, and eternal fire. Totally normal spiritual guidance. The hosts unp...
Matthew Chapter 17: Bible Study by Atheists 17.06.2026 34:49
Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain for Matthew 17 , then suddenly starts glowing like a radioactive Transformer while Moses and Elijah appear for history’s strangest theological tea party. God joins by cloud-based conference call, Peter offers to build ghost tents, and the disciples are told not to mention any of it until after Jesus rises from the dead, because nothing makes a mirac...
Matthew Chapter 16 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 16.06.2026 50:19
Matthew 16 is where the Gospel slams the narrative gas pedal and starts steering Jesus directly toward Jerusalem, suffering, and death. The miracles begin taking a back seat, the mood gets darker, and Jesus starts demanding that everyone finally decide who they think he is. Naturally, this includes asking the disciples for the local gossip, forcing Peter into a public declaration of loyalty, and e...
Matthew Chapters 14-15 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 15.06.2026 1:36:19
Herod’s family tree is less a tree and more an incestuous wreath, and Matthew 14 drops us directly into the royal disaster. We untangle Herod Antipas, Herodias, Philip, Salome, a politically inconvenient John the Baptist, and the birthday party that ends with a prophet’s head arriving on a platter. The Gospel frames John’s execution as a lurid revenge drama, while Josephus offers the less theatric...
Matthew Chapter 16: Bible Study by Atheists 13.06.2026 27:24
Matthew 16 opens with the Pharisees and Sadducees asking Jesus for a sign, only to get vague weather talk, a cryptic reference to Jonah, and the theological equivalent of “figure it out yourselves.” Then the disciples forget bread, again, while Jesus warns them about the “yeast” of religious leaders. Naturally, nobody understands what the hell he means until Matthew steps in to explain the metapho...
Matthew Chapter 15: Bible Study by Atheists 11.06.2026 33:12
Matthew 15 comes in swinging with Jesus getting called out by the Pharisees because his disciples apparently don’t wash their hands before eating. And honestly? For once, the Pharisees had a point. Instead of answering the very reasonable “Hey, why are your followers being gross?” question, Jesus pulls a classic theological dodge: “Yeah, but what about you ?” The hosts are not impressed, especiall...
Matthew Chapter 14: Bible Study by Atheists 10.06.2026 33:35
Matthew 14 comes in swinging with palace drama, horny birthday promises, and one extremely grim party favor: John the Baptist’s head on a platter . Herod hears about Jesus doing miracle stuff and immediately assumes John has risen from the dead, which is awkward, because the chapter then flashbacks into exactly how Herod had John killed after Herodias’ daughter danced her way into a murder request...
Matthew Chapter 13 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 09.06.2026 1:08:53
Matthew 13 is basically Jesus standing in a field, pointing at seeds, weeds, yeast, fish, and treasure like, “Behold, theology!” But in this Q&A episode, the hosts dig into why these parables may not be quite as stupid as they first sounded, annoying, yes, but weirdly clever once you understand the historical and political background. The chapter centers on the idea that the Kingdom of Heaven...
Matthew Chapters 11-12 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 06.06.2026 1:37:12
Matthew 11–12 is where Jesus stops being “wandering miracle guy” and starts giving full “I’m in charge now” energy. This Q&A digs into John the Baptist asking whether Jesus is actually the Messiah, the weird “Kingdom of Heaven” language that probably does not mean cartoon cloud heaven, and why Matthew keeps trying to duct-tape Old Testament prophecy onto Jesus like a theological conspiracy boa...
Matthew Chapter 13: Bible Study by Atheists 06.06.2026 34:45
Matthew 13 is basically Jesus’ TED Talk from a boat, except instead of “ideas worth spreading,” we get seeds, weeds, yeast, fish, treasure, pearls, and enough “good is good, bad is bad” energy to make a children’s morality poster feel overqualified. The hosts dig into the Parable of the Sower , the weeds among the wheat , the mustard seed , the yeast , the hidden treasure , the pearl , and the net...
Matthew Chapter 12: Bible Study by Atheists 03.06.2026 49:40
Matthew Chapter 12 rolls in hot with Jesus and the disciples casually plucking grain on the Sabbath, which sounds harmless until you remember God once got extremely murdery about Sabbath rule-breaking. The Pharisees object, Jesus fires back with David eating forbidden bread, and the hosts immediately clock the theological dodge: “David did illegal stuff, so now I get to pick grain?” Very sacred. V...
Matthew Chapter 11: Bible Study by Atheists 02.06.2026 31:24
Matthew Chapter 11 comes in hot with John the Baptist sitting in jail like, “Okay, but is this actually the Messiah or should we keep shopping?” Which immediately raises the very reasonable question: if miracles, healings, exorcisms, and magic-adjacent nonsense were apparently happening everywhere, how was anyone supposed to know which wandering holy man was the real wandering holy man? The hosts...
Matthew Chapters 9-10 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 31.05.2026 1:20:32
Matthew Chapters 9–10 crank the New Testament weirdness machine up another notch, and this Q&A episode digs into every “wait, what the hell?” moment. We’re talking Jesus forgiving sins before healing paralysis, tax collectors with collaborator vibes, bleeding women trapped in purity-law hell, dead girls getting touched despite ritual impurity rules, and blind men somehow being the only people...
Matthew Chapter 8 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 30.05.2026 1:14:39
Matthew Chapter 8 gets the Q&A treatment, and apparently this chapter is less “gentle Jesus meek and mild” and more “propaganda speed-run with a side of drowned livestock.” In this episode, we dig into Matthew 8 , including Jesus healing the leper, praising a Roman centurion, calming a storm, and committing what can only be described as biblical pig-based property damage. The big theme? Outsid...
Matthew Chapter 10: Bible Study by Atheists 29.05.2026 36:11
Matthew Chapter 10 is where Jesus stops being a solo miracle worker and starts assembling his supernatural street team, the twelve disciples, now unofficially rebranded as the Tucci Gang Demon Hunters . He gives them authority to drive out demons, heal diseases, raise the dead, cleanse leprosy, and apparently wander around like first-century paranormal freelancers with no money, no extra sandals,...
Matthew Chapter 9: Bible Study by Atheists 27.05.2026 39:36
Matthew Chapter 9 is basically Jesus speed-running miracles like he’s trying to unlock every achievement before dinner. Paralytic guy? Healed. Tax collector? Recruited. Bleeding woman? Fixed by cloak-contact. Dead girl? “She’s just asleep,” apparently. Blind men? Sight restored. Mute man? Demon evicted. It’s a nonstop parade of illness, faith, demons, and theological whiplash, because nothing says...
Matthew Chapter 8: Bible Study by Atheists 26.05.2026 41:44
Matthew Chapter 8 is where Little Maddie stops being a sermon-heavy morality lecture and turns into a full-blown supernatural roadshow. Jesus comes down from the mountain, immediately starts healing people, and somehow everyone acts like this is normal. We get a man with leprosy being declared “unclean,” a Roman centurion whose faith apparently impresses Jesus because he understands chain-of-comma...
Matthew Chapters 6 - 7 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists 24.05.2026 1:33:09
Jesus wraps up the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapters 6–7 , and honestly? For once, the guy has some notes we can work with. This episode digs into Jesus calling out religious theater, public virtue-signaling, performative prayer, fake holiness, wealth obsession, and the ancient equivalent of “posting your charity work for likes.” Basically: stop posing for the gram, stop hoarding wealth, and...
